  • I come seeking help ASAP regarding leg biting

    hi everyone

we have a ten week 1 day old puppy, he is a whippet cross, we got him at 9 weeks

he is amazingly clever, house trained and most of the time sooo cuddly however he goes for trousers and subsequently savages our legs.

tonight he has been relentless, even when I changed into "non waffy" pants he has jumped and bit my legs incessantly and caused 4 cuts with blood drawn.

it really hurts and feels like a full force bite

I cannot stand still when he is biting so hard, saying "ow" makes him more excited and bite more. redirecting to a toy sometimes works but at this point I think it's making him think that biting gets a toy.

he isnt particularly bitey with hands or anything but the trousers situation is really getting me down. as he was clung on so hsrd I tried to move away and he started to growl (probably thought I was playing)

I really don't know how to stop this happening.

he has enforced naps, 1 out 2 in (crate trained) he sleeps from 10pm to 7pm with one get up at 4am (amazing I know)

please help how we can stop this asap

we don't let him anywhere near our toddler unsupervised and are having a play pen delivered but the fear of that happening to him is filling me with dread.

I have tried teaching off which he understands when he's not going mental

please help, I understand puppies bite, but this is different.

  • Help! Crying puppy in my apartment

I need help. I live jn an apartment and work from home

My 15 week old puppy will not rest. If I put her in her crate she screams for 45 minutes.

The “put her in there and ignore her crying” isn’t going to work when it’s really bothering my neighbors and echoing in the hallway.

Please don’t respond telling me to just let it happen. That is not a good solution for my issue.

I spoke with my neighbors and gave them Starbucks cards in preparation for her coming, but

    I don’t think $25 really appeases them.

    Any ideas?

  • Advice on how to handle puppy energy

We have gotten a 11 week old danish/swedish farmdog, 5 days ago.

This is our first dog and of course, puppy.

We are in a situation where we are unsure if the pup is over, or under stimulated. The race is not for beginners and requires some experience we’ve been told, so that is also why we’re feeling we’re in deep waters.

We have a Kong, as well as licking Matts we bought today. But often this pup will not be sleeping more than 12-14 hours a day. We have a hard time getting him to sleep, or calm down. Especially during night time. We are currently training him in how to sit, but may have mentality under stimulated him, as we thought we were overstimulating him. Then we tried to make everything boring, which made him restless, which we might have mistook for overstimulation, and que the downward spiral…

Usually he only has to pee once during nights, which is ok for getting some sleep.

We are getting him trained from next week (puppy school), as well as having a personal dog trainer coming over tomorrow.

Yes, we are indeed in the puppy blues state, and overwhelmed by the responsibility of a puppy. But we made a decision that we toughen it out, and will go through it. Because we know that it is just tough for the first 8 months+, with a puppy.

But do anyone in here, have any recommendations to ensure he is properly mentally stimulated, and of course if this might be the issue.

Similar experiences and potentially solutions are welcome as well.

  • new puppy- give me your most inexplicable puppy advice

Just got our 10 week old super mutt, miss Goose! Gimme the oddest things that worked for your young pooch. Not the 10-10-10 rule, not bully sticks, nothing your trainer might tell ya. I’m looking for the strangest puppy hacks that have made puppyhood easier.

  • Stupid Puppy Blues – need to vent ?

    Hello everyone,

I don't really know why I'm posting, maybe I want to have something to go back to when I'll feel better. maybe I'm seeking advice, reassurance…

with my husband we adopted a White shepherd ("berger blanc suisse" in french) 10 weeks old, 16 days ago, and since day 6 I'm having a hard case of puppy blues.

We were prepared (or so I thought), I read a lot and we are living in a house so this is relatively easy to manage potty training.

He is "easy" : he already figured out our rhythm, is not really too energetic, and when he goes troll mode he can go down in 10-15', he figured where he can pee/poo outside the house, he let us sleep for 6h straight, etc.

I was alone during the day the 5 first days as my husband couldn't take 2 weeks of vacation. And I think it has really tired me to be alone in the beginning.

we got back to work Tuesday, He is alone 3-4h in the morning then he goes to our good friends house who work from home Tuesday Thursday and Friday when we work all day.

Everything on paper seems good, there is some accident but nothing crazy, this evening he was more excited than usual but nothing impossible. But i lost my patience so fast, luckily my husband was here to help.

But I'm lost/so depressed, I think that I'm lacking sleep but today it feels like I took the worst decision of my life. I feel like i will feel trap forever and with our work schedule he will be sad forever (even if we can put him at my friend house and i can walk him nearly 1h in morning and i'm at home at 5:30pm).

the worst part is that I feel that even if he is "easy" he will go berserk at any moment. and I can't shake this feeling off.

i feel stupid, and I try to not listen to all of my anxious thought but it's difficult and I feel like I'm a burden to my husband. who is really supportive but he has a stressful job and I don't want to be a burden.

I feel that there is some progress but that's up and down and I want that feeling to fade.

I don't want to return him because he is already attached and a really good puppy but sometimes I wish that he could disappear for 1 hour or 2 so I can get back to my old life. and I hate to think that.

I have an appointment with my therapist on Monday (breaking a 1.5 year without appointment yeaaah) I hope it will help.

I dont' know what I'm searching here… maybe some input ? or a way to letting it out ?

sorry English is not my first language, have a beautiful day/night everyone .

  • Puppy is resource guarding me 🙁

    I’m struggling emotionally today.

Stats: 6 month old intact female. 20 lbs. Will spay as soon as some tummy issues resolve. Has been with us for a month. Had Giardia with the rescue and tested positive for it with us about 3 weeks ago. Still waiting for 3 full days of solid healthy poops. She’s a lot of breeds: chihuahua, husky, Malinois, small poodle, supermutt mix: chow, Pekingese and schnauzer, and GSD. We thought she was a terrier.

We went to a basic skills dog training class last night and the trainer quickly identified that our dog is resource guarding me. Idk if I want advice (I’ve seen it all online) or just someone to tell me I’m being too hard on myself. I feel hopeless and lost. And so guilty.

This is the second dog we’ve had in our house to do this to me specifically ☹️ The first was a completely shut down foster who quickly bonded to me and hated my bf. At least our new dog (already adopted, we love her) loves my bf too. She was docile with new ppl at first but over time started showing signs of aggression with strangers in our house. She’s ok in public but barked at the trainer last night when she approached. The rest of the hour i stayed a bit disengaged from her.

I do bond deeply with these pups. I also am trying to have boundaries and create structure, and we do easy quick training exercises every day. Both dogs have intense breeds (the foster was APBT/bulldog/GSD/mal… I sure do know how to pick em!!!) Idk man. This is just so hard to see and know how to address.

I’ve had a trainer come over before the class but I think I want to find a new one. She seems afraid of these dogs. She helped us with our reactive dog who died last year but maybe I need a new approach.

  • Advice for barking during people mealtimes?

Hello! We’ve got an almost 5 month old basset/beagle puppy. For about a week or so his barking whenever a person is eating something has gotten loud and persistent. I’ve tried crating with a high value treat while eating but we’re still working on crate comfort and he only lasts calmly in his crate between 5 and 15 min. We’ve tried a good long lasting chew while we eat and that works some of the time. I’ve taken to putting him on our covered deck outside so that the barking is atleast a little quieter. And usually he barks a few times up to a minute or so and then finds something to sniff in the yard. Oh and I’ve tried him having his dinner at the same time again with mixed success.

Any advice? We have young kids and he has been rewarded inadvertently with food drops from the dinner table in the past months.

If anyone has any resources they love on handling general barking that would be great too!

  • Puppy Slowed Down Around 4 Months

My beagle/Stabyhoun mix puppy was a nightmare during 3 months and showed all the teething signs and was super super high energy but everyone kept saying 4-6 months are the worst so I was expecting it to get even worse. She is now 17 weeks old and suddenly stopped being a menace 3-4 days ago. It was impossible to walk around (cause of jumping) at peace if she was not tethered and very bity. But now she sleeps like a normal puppy even when not tethered. Sleeps well, eats well, poops well… So it's nothing to do with health issues i guess

She lost at least 2 teeth in the front and most of the back teeth have grown. Could this be related to her calmness? I'm very surprised lol.

  • Did I reach the the teenager phase?

My Golden Retriever girl is a little over 6 months. About a week ago she decided she doesn’t need to listen to sh!t. Sit, down, lay, stay, etc. commands that she knows VERY well even when distractions she’s decided I’m not doing that. She also started a fun little thing where if we try training (we keep sessions short, 5-10 minutes) and have kept the same routine. Where she’ll jump up and punch us in the face with her nose.

I’m just curious because I read teenager phase is all different ages.

We’ll of course stay consistent, but my god she’s being a brat lol.

Not even with just training, I feel like she’s 9 weeks all over again.

Good thing she’s cute, and very loved lol.
