I’m a dog trainer and also training my 5th personal puppy (7mo cane corso, husky, lab mix) so I work with people and their new dogs and this is the most common thing I have to remind clients with puppies who are struggling with behavior.
You want it to lay on the couch all day, chew its bone and silently allow anyone to enter or exit the home?
Then you have to meet the animal needs first. Long structured walks every day, predatory style enrichment, and desensitization training all have to come first.
ESPECIALLY with your “low energy” small breeds. (Yes, your English bull dog wants to tackle something to the ground at least once or twice per day)
You won’t have the pet you want without meeting them at the level of their predator.
