Potty training a 9 week old golden in the city is the worst.

Since coming home recently with our golden, he went from being alright in the crate and potty to awesome to regressing to whatever he was probably doing 4 weeks ago. I’m at my wits end.

We can try to take him to his patch of grass that’s safe from dogs 5-6 times in a row when we KNOW he has to poop, but he won’t. Potty commands we thought were pretty ingrained do nothing. All he wants to do is bite everything, eat grass and dirt, puppy stuff. On top of that, there’s the city distractions: tons of people all over even if they don’t approach, just moving bodies or cars going by in the distance.

He goes out at all the times everyone says a puppy should. After meals, sleeps, crates, etc etc…

But the guy needs to sleep, so he goes in his crate which he loves. Sure enough within not long, poops everywhere. This has happened 3-4 times now where he’s held his poop all day, SEVERAL attempts outside and then just released in the crate(yes we cleaned with enzyme cleaner, the tray of his crate is currently soaking as I type this).

At this point it feels like a habit I’m terrified of forming but he was doing so good the first 3-4 days.

pardon my French but what the fuck can we do to break both the potential habit being formed and also stop this thing where he can‘t poop due to the surrounding 3” and beyond? *

*For the record, I don’t blame him but I also don’t blame us. We’re doing everything we can to get this guy to do his thing outside of buying a new house in the country with no distractions or existence besides our own.
