When did you stop enforcing daytime crate naps?

We moved into a new apartment last week and our 5.5 month-old golden retriever puppy is now refusing day time crate naps (still sleeps in crate at night w/no issues).

On the plus side, she has finally started to be able to settle outside of the crate and take naps on the couch or floor nearby us. However, she will wake up if we make too much noise or she senses too much movement – something that's hard to avoid in our open space floor plan. It also means we haven't been able to leave her at home alone the last 10 days which isn't good for building her independence, or our own sanity 🙂

Should we abandon daytime crate naps all together, embrace her new found ability to self-settle, and move towards leaving her to free-roam in a controlled/puppy safe gated off area? Any advice would be appreciated!
