puppy is regressing with crate training

our 5mo puppy has been doing amazing at night in his crate and nearly sleeping from 10-6:30 every night with no fuss at all through those hours. now, starting just last night and continuing tonight he whines and barks almost immediately when we put him away and go upstairs to bed. he’ll bark for like 20 minutes like he did when we first brought him home before eventually settling down. if he wakes up in the middle of the night he will bark until he’s let out (it’s not uncommon for him to sometimes need a potty break in the middle of the night so we weren’t gonna ignore him for that). he barks after being put up from his potty break too. were just a little confused because this really came out of nowhere and nothing has changed in his routine to provoke the change. if we lived in a regular house i’d be less worried about it but with us living in a townhouse i just feel bad for our neighbors because i know they were also happy with how quiet he’s been at night now too.
