We’ve been following every crating recommendation for our 12 week old basset (had her for 2.5 weeks).
She eats in there
We play crate games
She naps and sleeps at night in there
She gets her favourite treats for being in there.
Our schedules allow for her to only be alone for two , two-hour blocks a day while we work, we’re crating her for them until she learns how to be calm and can be trusted in a gated-off room. The first one is fine, but the second…..
she screams, barks , cries bloody murder. She gets a 45 minute wake window, walk, play, train, lunch and two bathroom breaks before we try and put her down and it is still truly impossible. She’ll cry the whole length of the break and we’re worried about this turning into separation anxiety. She’s still too curious to allow to be alone in a room, and she hates her playpen even more than her crate.
Any advice ? Be it training or how to shift our schedule ? We’re desperate.
