Is it ok to put you puppy on a lead in the house/kitchen

Hi all. We are the proud owners of a new puppy – 16 weeks old and supposedly a Kelpie/lab cross although maybe there is a bit of something else in there as well. Great doggo, a little nippy but progress is being made and the 3am toileting is still happening

But the main this is when I have chores or when the kids are getting ready for school is it ok if I have him on a lead near me so he doesn't jump up to get in the way? If we crate him or put him in the laundry he wines a lot and although it doesn't worry me it stresses the kids a little.
