My small 8 y/o dog has always had a proclivity for urinating on doormats and rugs. She’s done this since she we got her as a puppy. She’s mostly potty-trained; this issue being the only reason I won’t say she’s fully trained. At this point it’s fairly infrequent but tends to happen when things get exciting like we have guests over or she’s left alone for over 4 hours (we never leave her more than 5).
We are about to move into a new home with hardwood floors and plan on putting rugs down for her, but I am worried she’s going to treat them as her personal pee pads. (Our current place has LVP.)
I am planning on slowly introducing her to the home, space and rugs. (Introduction > outside for potty, meets the rugs > outside for potty, etc.) Obviously this will take some time, but I can’t think of any other way. Open to any in all ideas.
