This might be a weird question, not sure.
I've got a 4 month old puppy, he's a bit submissive around other dogs, mostly bigger dogs. But soon warms up to them, and doesn't bark or anything.
My family have two five year old dogs, one of them in particular is a bit reactive and barks a lot when she sees another dog. She's not an aggressive dog, she loves to play with other dogs.
We tried a gradual introduction in an neutral open, secure space a few weeks ago. It didn't go amazingly, as he was very submissive and a bit unsure worried about the dogs. They barked and when he ran they ran over up to him (seemed to be they wanted to play chase, but he just froze).
We did go to a cafe after where they say together a bit better, but there seemed to still be a bit of a divide. Which I guess is understandable when you are introduced to new dogs.
Obviously as they're our family dogs, we want them to be able to bond, especially if we need him to be looked after at any points.
Just wondered if anybody had any tips for introducing a submissive puppy to a pair of dogs that are friendly but a bit barky.
(I should add he's a cockapoo breed, and when he's seen some dogs on leads he's tried to run about a bit, and he likes to run around with us. So I think he will really enjoy opening up, but he's struggling with it at the moment. He's currently in puppy classes and puppy socialisation to help boost his confidence and to be around other pups)
