  • Lack of loyalty!šŸ˜‚

We just door dashed some KFC and when I opened the door to get the order my pom tried to get in the delivery man's caršŸ˜‚. She just ran right past for his open car. KFC is delicious but is that really all it takes to leave us?!

  • Toy Recommendations for a Plastic Lover

Hi guys! I have a greyhound who isn't interested in too many toys. We've nailed her obsession with caterpillar toys, but haven't found a good chew toy. We've noticed she loves to chew on plastic things she's gotten a hold of. Plastic garden stakes, a bristle brush, and the pole of her lure toy. Obviously she can't have these things, but we can't find a good toy that mimics it. We have nylabones, rubber toys, harder rope/fabric toys.

I think the nylabones would work if they weren't so thick. I don't think she can get a good grip, and prefers really thin pole/sausage sized items to chew.

Anyone know of any good thin but hardish toys? I think greyhounds have fairly weak jaws from what I heard as well.

  • Doesn’t like to eat during the day

So I'm a little worried that my girl (almost 9 months) isn't eating enough. I put out her breakfast at 9-10 am, but she hardly, if ever, touches it, sometimes she'll go the entire day without a single bite. If she does, it's way late in the afternoon. Sprinkling some cheese entices her occasionally, but not always. She usually eats her dinner, though she's been leaving bits behind the past few nights. I mix proteins in with her kibble (like turkey or eggs) so obviously she likes that more. Her weight and energy are fine, I'm just worried she's not getting enough nutrition throughout the day. Should this be a vet visit, or is she just a one-meal-a-day kind of gal?

  • Returning to work advice

I’m returning to work (I was remote with puppy until now) on Monday. Here’s my plan:

Monday: head to work at 8ish, sitter stops by at 10:30 for an hour, I come by during lunch from 1-2, I’m home by 4:30

    Tuesday: same as Monday

    Wednesday: work from home

Thursday: same as Monday and Tuesday

    Friday: work from home

My puppy is crate training and doesn’t fuss in her crate. Is this doable? My puppy will be 11 weeks next week. The sitter is paid to come for 1 hour. I’ll put my pup in doggy daycare soon, but she has Giardia so I’m not comfortable spreading that around until she’s done with meds and tested negative.

  • how to stop incessant biting???

for context, 16week old female golden, got her at 13 weeks, teething like crazy right now.

our girl Lucy genuinely will not stop biting me, my shirt sleeves, my leggings, and blankets around me. it’s mostly during her evening witching hour or in the morning to be fair, but absolutely nothing deters it. she won’t trade for a toy, saying ā€œah ahā€ doesnt work, if i hide my hands she goes for my sleeves, if i stand up she’ll leap off the couch for my shirt or leggings or switch to biting a blanket. also worth noting that this is not a bite and release, she clamps down on my sleeves or the blankets. absolutely nothing deters her. she also rarely does this to my boyfriend and even then it’s only when he pulls her off me. she gets plenty of toys, frozen lick mats + kongs, etc.

for anyone who has an excessive chomper, what do you do to either discourage inappropriate biting and/or to encourage them to release?? my boyfriend is gone for 2-3 days at a time twice a week for work so I’m home alone with her half the week and it’s starting to drive me nuts lol

  • Random barking and biting outbursts

Our guy is a 4 month old miniature long haired dachshund. Within the last week or two he's started displaying this new behavior. It starts with us playing with him, usually with a toy. After a few minutes of really getting into play he'll lock into eye contact, start barking loud and baring teeth while trying to bite… hard. We've made great progress on his puppy biting so far, but this is a bit more aggressive and crazy. My first instinct is overstimulation, but what do you think?

My approach so far is trying to break his fixation on us. Either do some training or get him in the crate to calm him down. Just looking for some reassurance that I'm handling it correctly. Thanks everyone!

  • First puppy, Need advice

Sooo I’ve had experience with dogs before when we had a family dog but this is my first very own puppy.

I’m a little lost on what to do training wise… he came home two days ago and I was advised to do baby gates instead of a crate for him which I could see pros and cons of both but I’m now really not sure if I made the right decision.

A little bit of info: he is a golden retriever, 8 weeks and 5 days old at the moment so he’s starting the teething and biting which I’m not all too worried about because he seems to know to bite the toys more than me(I still get the occasional nibble). I live in a 2 bed apt on the bottom floor which I know isn’t ideal for dogs. This pup will be trained to be a service dog eventually due to my disabilities so he will have to go for training courses once he’s had his second round of vaccines.

Toilet training is going okay so far? I’d estimate maybe 80% of the time he goes on the pads, 20% of the time he has the accidents. His naps are chaos which I know him not having a crate doesn’t help… he seems to wake up for an hour or 2 then naps for 30-45mins then it’s a constant cycle.

I’m really just looking for advice on what I should be doing…

  • Just got a puppy and she can’t walk on a leash

I got a 12 week old lab mix puppy today and am confused on how to go about leash training. Do I leash her up everyday and bring her outside still to get her used to it, I tried to bring her outside with a harness, we were out there for about 15 mins, she would sniff the ground a lil and move a tiny bit but besides that was basically glued to the ground, I’m not trying to rush anything , just curious.

  • Real Christmas tree or fake Christmas tree?

    Hi everyone,

My husband and I need your help to solve a disagreement.

We have a 6 month old mini schnauzer who is our first dog together.

One of us wants a fake tree and the other one would prefer to have a real tree.

The concerns with a real tree are that needles will fall, our puppy will try to eat them and it’ll take a lot of redirection to train him not to eat them let alone if he does eat them what it’ll do health wise.

The person who wants the real tree is trying to keep our family tradition – going to pick out a real tree, bring it home, etc. Also, this persons thought process is that if we get a real tree and teach redirection now, it’ll be easier when he is older not to go up to the tree.

We do not have a big enough place for a fence around the tree… we’ve already discussed that option.

What do you all suggest? Do you guys get real trees or fake trees with a dog?

We have agreed that whatever the majority says on this post will be what we do lol.
