Rescued Two Puppies Off the Streets
Hi! My husband and I rescued two puppies off the streets. Mustang and Sally. I haven't had puppies in over 10 years, so I am a bit rusty with training and I'm sure there are newer and better techniques now.
-
They scarf down their food, I plan on getting slow feeders for them. Mustang will growl at Sally and push her out of the way and Sally will just go to Mustang's bowl. Obviously I know to separate them but since they are still puppies I'd like to correct this behavior.
-
They jump. So far we turn around and ignore them until they sit or lay down, then we will give them attention and praise.
-
Potty training. We have puppy pads, but in my past experience it's harder to potty train to go outside if they're taught to use a pad inside first. We have them for accidents just in case because they've never been indoors before. We take them outside with our older dog and they watch her, and use the bathroom.
-
Chewing. We have toys galore of all kinds, the heavy duty kind and soft stuffed kinds. So far if we notice them mouthing or going to chew on something they shouldn't, we redirect them and give them something they can chew on. We try to give them the option of a hard chew or a soft plush to satisfy them.
-
Walking on a leash. This has both my husband and I stumped. When we attach a leash to them, they just drop to the ground. They seem very uncomfortable and will not walk or move. I haven't had to deal with this myself so I'm not sure where to start here. Sally will flinch sometimes so I wonder if she has been mistreated before.
-
Littermate syndrome. My mom has two dogs that are siblings, the same mother but two different litters one after the other. They are both males and they have gotten into the worst fights that have resulted in expensive vet bills, my mom now has them separated. I want to prevent any sort of littermate syndrome. What are some things I need to do?
I'm sure I might be missing some things, but we've had them less than 24 hours and so far this is what I've come up with. They are the sweetest and smartest babies ever. Any tips, tricks, or advice is greatly appreciated.

Playpen and 1 up 2 down gave me some freedom back
I feel sane!!!! I got my puppy on Halloween and I had no idea they needed 18 hours of sleep. Thank God I found that out shortly after getting her.
I also finally trained her to be calm in the playpen during her 1 up hours. From time to time she barks but it’s nothing like it was before. Feeding her lick mats and her kong in there has been so helpful!!!!
Ty for all the tips!!! I feel like I can be my couch potato self, go get my target pick up orders, get my haircut etc and not worry. I also think she is safer in the playpen. The other day she destroyed one of my LEGO sets which can be so dangerous for her if she were to swallow one.
DONT UNDERESTIMATE PLAYPENS AND NAPS!!!

Keeping house clean – tips?
Dear dog lovers
Let me start off by explaining my situation. I’m a 17 year old girl and I’ve BEGGED for a puppy since I was a child lol. We got one and I absolutely LOVE him, but my mom keeps on complaining that our house is dirty… is there anything I can do? Tips? Ideas? Anything you think of? I really only want to do the best. I placed a mat under his feeding and drinking bowl, have his toys and grooming supplies in a designated box for him, keep his food and snacks stored away, always clean up his toys before I go to bed, I bathed him recently,… I wash all of his blankets and toys once a week and keep his bowls clean. She’s still upset about the hairs on the couch and stuff, and that he keeps bringing stuff like sticks and dirt inside.
Is there anything you do to keep your house a little extra clean? Anything I can add?
All tips welcome (even if they sound rude lmao) x

Winter dog training/walking gloves?
Hello! I am a dog walker in Canada and it starting to get really cold. I handle a viper long line with my clients and train while on walks. My hands are always slimey from dog treats and slobber, and then they have to rub up on the frozen long line while handling. I often end my walks with numb and red hands. See, now I've used household gloves before, but they often get soaked or are super thick and horrible to train with!
Any recommendation for gloves that will keep my hands warm but is also practical while training?
Thank you guys so much!

Weather sensitivity?
I love my reactive dog and medication has saved her life. But with this big cold snap threatening, her reactivity has ramped up. Does anyone else see a change in behavior based on weather when everything else remains the same? It's not awful, but it is puzzling.

Goofy question: does your dog “thank you”?
I’ve had our adopted pup for about six months. Whenever he receives something, a toy or treat, he pretty much receives it and gets out of dodge. With my previous dog, after receiving something, he would make some sort of acknowledgment or gesture before getting out of dodge. 😂
