  • Someone tell me this is just normal puppy exploration/behavior?

    First time dog owner here.

Officially have had Frankie, our mini poodle for 3 weeks and he's now officially 13 weeks old! He's mostly potty trained with the occasional accident. Sleeps well in his crate 95% of the time. He's learning tricks. SUPER high energy and definitely doesn't have an off switch right now. Overall a pretty angelic puppy.

My question revolves around the fact that we have a lot of stairs in the house and his potty area for now before he can go on walks is on the roof so we have to take him up at least one flight of stairs, sometimes two. He was fine with us carrying him up until a few days ago and now not only squirms to get off but sometimes growls and barks. He's doing the same with his little carrier bag that I use to socialize him and take him on walks. He started actually barking today and biting the bag on our walk today for the first time. His biting just overall has gotten much much worse.

Is this just puppy behavior/finding his voice or aggression? Are we just in the trenches? Thank you!

  • 100lb+ owners, what is your preferred for where to have your pet when you go out of town?

I have 110 lb presa canario girl and just wondering what others experiences have been with having a big dog at trying pet hotels or Rover. It’s very difficult so far to find a human hotel that allows really big dogs. I’m in the Chicago area so if you have any recommendations in that area, please let me know!

  • My partner and I just can’t agree on the breed.

    Hey everyone!
I just wanted to get my thoughts out and ask for some advice on what to do. My partner and I really want a dog, but here’s the issue: I want a vizsla (I’ve only ever had vizslas), and he wants a labrador. I don’t have anything against labs, but for me they’re missing that deep, devoted attachment that vizslas naturally have, and I honestly can’t picture my life with a lab.

I tried to get excited about labs—which made my partner really happy—but I realized I just don’t like the breed. I even suggested we pick a different breed altogether, but he’s set on a lab. The thing is, I can’t imagine my life without a dog, but I also can’t imagine living with a breed I don’t connect with. So now I’m stuck and don’t know what to do.

  • Camping with ten month old dog

Hey! We want to go camping next summer with our then 10 month old miniature dachshund. I am currently researching about tents. He sleeps in his own bed at home and is not allowed in the bed because I have pretty bad sleep anyway.

Now about the tent situation: it will be Sweden, so nights will tend to be cooler. He will have to sleep in the same tent cabin as us, I think. Is there a way to keep him just at our feet? I think that could work for me. Or do you have any other ideas?

  • I think I hate my puppy

Just to start off by saying I've had dogs my entire life, but only ever rescues never a puppy. Our last boy was a lovely rescue Greyhound and the love of my life, he passed away quite suddenly from cancer a few months ago and it absolutely destroyed us.

We decided to get a puppy to 'have the most time we could' with them especially after feeling like we didn't get all we should with our Greyhound. We bought home our 5 month (nearly 6 months) old whippet on 01/11/25 and I think I've made the worst mistake of my life. I dread being alone with him as he just runs rapid around the house destroying and trying to eat everything, he has toys, he has teething aids and goes on plenty of walks a day. I know he might be overtired but he's nap resistant.

I find myself genuinely hating him, he's destroying the house I worked hard to make home, I like having walks with him as then he's not destroying the house and he seems a bit nervous on them and it's nice to see him a bit calmer. We've been using our kitchen as his 'crate' when he goes in he just cries and barks which I know is normal but it makes me feel so bad I end up caving. He doesn't really listen to me, only my husband and he's been at the football the last two Sundays leaving me alone with him and it's making me resent him too. I feel literally nothing positive for this dog and I'm getting angry like really angry. I'm really close to giving up and it's just making me really miss my good boy.

When does it actually get better as I can't go on like this.

  • Getting a Maltipoo puppy in December — food advice for the first 6 months (India)

I’m from Bengaluru and getting my first Maltipoo this December. I’ve read mixed opinions — some recommend sticking to premium puppy kibble with light toppers, while others say to avoid kibble completely since it’s processed and can cause weight gain. For the first six months, what’s the best approach? Should I start with only kibble (like Royal Canin or Orijen) or mix in some fresh/home-cooked food? Would love to hear what’s worked best for small breeds in Indian conditions in terms of digestion, coat, and growth.

  • Importing a puppy from Europe?

    Hi guys,

I'm looking at getting a breed that is relatively hard to get in the UK after a lot of research into whats best for us.

Whilst there are UK breeders, they are few and far between with large waitlists for the puppies. I'm starting to look at importing a puppy from France, and would love any stories and advice from people that have done this.

Obviously in doing this, the puppy will be 15 weeks old rather than 8. I've only ever had puppies from 8 weeks old, and I know those first few weeks are important for socialisation and bonding. Does anyone have any stories or advice on this too?

    Thank you!
