  • My dog started marking, how do I stop it?

Hi all! I was hoping to get some advice on my problem. For some background, I have a 6 year old dog who’s lived with me in apartments since I got him. I moved into a bigger, 2 bed apartment recently and he’s begun marking in the office (where I spend most of my time and where he seems to hang out when he’s alone). He doesn’t have house training issues (he’s been left alone for 9 hours without marking) and when I check on him through a camera he’s always asleep or playing with a toy. In old places, he’s been kept in my room when I’m out to respect roommates. I’ve tried diffusers, putting clothes over the clean spots to deter remarking, rewarding him near those areas with treats, etc and haven’t had luck. Sometimes I go a week without him marking and sometimes he’ll mark everyday for 5 days. I want to stop this habit before I move again and am frustrated with this new development since he went 5 years without issue before.

  • Dreams

Ever notice your dog twitching or moving their paws while sleeping like they’re chasing something in a dream? What do you think they’re dreaming about? Has your dog done this too?

  • Can’t contact DogPacer

I'm hoping someone in this sub has a contact or something. I ordered my pupper a treadmill last month directly from DogPacer. I got an instant order confirmation email, but I've heard nothing else. I see other posters use this product and I'm hoping someone has a way to reach the company. I've tried their number thats on their website and the form for customer service and I've heard absolutely nothing. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Getting First Puppy in December. Advice?

Hello all! As title states, I am getting my first puppy in December. He is a purebred Golden retriever. I have had large dogs growing up, but never had to handle the ins and outs of the puppy stage and training as I was too young. Any advice on training, teething, etc, would be greatly appreciated! Do any of you recommend the clicker for training? Also, I have a 3 yr old cat who hasn’t been around dogs that much. I understand that I need to keep them separated until they get acclimated to each others scents. Any advice on a smooth introduction as well would help a ton.

    I appreciate it!

  • Puppy no longer signaling to be taken out to pee overnight, will proactively waking him disrupt his sleep schedule or should I gamble on making it overnight?

My 13 week old Bernedoodle is doing great with potty training during the day. He seems to know by now that he shouldn't pee anywhere indoors, and hasn't had many accidents recently as "mandatory" breaks after waking, meals, and heavy play mostly cover his awake time.

I'm teaching him to use potty bells by the front door and he's just starting to get it a bit though not using it consistently, but otherwise he signals to me during the day by coming up to me, pressing on my leg, and worst case giving a small bark if I'm not getting the message. Sometimes he also just heads to the front door and gives me a look haha.

Overnight we're having some issues. This might be a downstream impact of my calmness training but he's no longer whining/barking overnight to let him out. I put him to bed around 9-10pm and then I was doing 1-2am break and then another 5-6am break. His sleep set up is a crate+pen, he usually sleeps in the crate but I leave the door open and if he has accident its basically at the door to the pen (away from his feeding area in the pen). I know this is a downside risk of this set up but I don't want to do full closed door crate training.

Recently he's been making it through the night to 5-6am about 70% of the time. I tried to cut out the 1-2am break because it became more proactive, he was often just asleep and even if he woke up slightly he wouldn't rush to go out and often went back to the crate. He does pee if I take him out though.

The overnight hit rate doesn't seme high enough for me to fully trust him but should I be proactively waking him up at 1-2am again? Sometimes it takes him 30+ mins to go back to sleep and he's clearly more tired in the morning. Is this going to disrupt his ability to sleep through a whole night since it may teach him that 1-2am slot is an "awake time"?

  • Training an overexcited, bitey puppy

So I've read everywhere that puppies need to sleep 18-20 hours a day. So we're having 20 – 60 min play, feed and train in-between 2 ish hour naps with toilet breaks inbetween. The toileting (don't wanna jinx it) is going well. She's managing sit and understand when we've been for a wee, we get to sit and have a treat. She will also sit before dinner but this one is tricky as it's so exciting. However whenever I try and play she's just so bitey. I tried saying 'ah ah' and having a different tone then read that it was the wrong thing to do. I have tried ignoring her but that feels like allowing her and we're getting bitten to death. I read somewhere that when she's overly bitey she is tired so I've been putting her for a nap in her crate which she is fine with but I feel like she's in it all day. When I try and train her she just wants to bite and play. I don't know what I'm doing wrong! I'm determined to have a good, well mannered dog as she's a staffy and for now is tiny and gorgeous but soon will be a boisterous baby so I wanna get her trained well before then. We got her at 12 weeks and found out the 'accidental litter' owner, didn't give them any jabs so she's getting her 8 weeks at nearly 13 weeks and then the follow up after. I feel like she's missing out on being able to venture out to see noises and people due to this too. Would it be worth getting puppy classes?

    Sorry for the long post!

  • Is there a website or sub to see dogs’ previous owners?

I’m not sure if this is a good place to ask, but I figured why not. I adopted my dog in 2020 from the SPCA, she was 8 years old. I’m just wondering if there’s any website or subreddit out there where people can find the previous owners of their pets. My girl is getting old and I would just LOVE to maybe see some baby pictures of her or even hear about her life before me. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Weird Eye Color

My cousin's dog is about four months old, Australian Shepard. He has something that I've never seen in my life among any animal. His one eye (right) is two different colors. And I don't mean it is speckled with different colors. No, it is split down the middle vertically with the outer half of his right eye being sort of hazel and the inner half of the same eye being a pale blue.

Zoom in on his right eye. I've never seen any creature have an eye with split eye color. It's wild to me. I'm not saying it's never happened, I've just never seen it.

I've seen animals and people with two different colored eyes, but never one eye be two different colors.

This is not heterochromia where each eye is a different color.
