  • i feel like my puppy is ruining my life…and me.

this is more just for me to vent…My Shepard/Husky mix is 10 months old. I got her when she was 6 months. Prior to getting her I was told she had anxiety, but i didn’t know the extent of it. In a way, I’m spiteful at times towards her previous owner (who is also my friend) because I feel as though he downplayed the anxiety aspect so much.

She has severe separation anxiety. When I first got her, I crate-trained her and she was doing okay with it, but the separation anxiety was still there. When I leave, she cries…and whines…and howls. Sometimes for hours on and off. This is even when I give her gabapentin and trazodone. I don’t go out with friends much anymore, because I’m always worried about leaving her. I take her with me on errands because Im so stressed at the thought of leaving her alone. Even going to work every day, I stress out, because I already know how it’s going to be when I leave. Eventually yes, she does calm down — but i would love to be able to confidently go out, and not have her constantly in the back of my mind. Or not paranoidly check the dog camera because i keep getting notifications that she’s crying, or barking. Last week it took a turn, she chewed the door frame in my new apartment while i was at work, something she’s NEVER done. The last time I tried to crate her (about a week ago) she was borderline screaming, biting the door and “digging” to try and get out, to the point i literally had to turn around (i was on my way to work) and let her out. I leave her in my room with the door closed so she can freely roam, the window open so she can look outside, even the TV on as background noise.

I don’t want to give her up. I love her, and she IS a good puppy. But this separation anxiety is really beginning to take a toll on me, negatively. I find myself becoming irritable with her, snapping at her, and that’s not fair. Like I said, I’ve tried the meds, I’ve tried so many different techniques, but when i think we’re getting somewhere, she regresses…BADLY.

I’ve inquired about going to see a behaviourist, and about doing professional training, but it’s so much damn money and I’m already just barely getting by. Her needs come before my own, which I know is not necessarily a good thing. I’ve spent so much money already. I’m just starting to be at a loss. My last resort is the professional training/a behaviourist. And if that doesn’t work, I truly don’t know what I’m going to do. Because it hurts thinking about giving her up, because that’s not fair to her. But where do I draw the line?

  • What trick or behaviour did your dog learn on their own?

My girl (boxer mix, 7 yo) knows the phrases “go pee” and “do business” for her two types of potty. I remind her during our walks that she needs to do her business. If she decides she has no need to poop, she will just sit down when I remind her. She has trained ME to stop reminding her.

  • Why am I being charged to register my dogs microchip

my dog was microchiped today while she was in surgery for her belly. While going through all her meds they gave me I found the 'home again' card with her chip number. I went to register her number on their website but it said I had to buy a plan or membership or whatever they call it. I'm just confused. I paid 60 dollars for the microchip. Why do I need to spend more money to register it? I would have called the vet clinic but they are closed right now. How do i register her number for free, or is it already registered or what? I DONT KNOW! Please I'm sleep deprived from talking care of a sick dog. Explain it to me like I 5 but be nice😭 what am I doing wrong.

  • [discussion] my dog won’t eat his treat

I bought this new treat for my dog it’s a collagen chip and he seems to really like it but weirdly he won’t eat it. He just carries it in his mouth everywhere. When we leave for work and come back, it’s barely touched and he grabs it and follows me everywhere with it in his mouth. I’ve also noticed that he’s become very whiny when he has it. Any ideas on why?

  • Why is my puppy eating so much poo?!

I have a 9 month old hound mix and he has recently gotten realllyy into eating poop 🤢. He’s always gone after goose poop on walks but I’ve noticed a big uptick lately that he will eat other dogs poop, and any other animal poop that’s around. Through a quick Google search I’ve learned it could be anxiety or boredom, but he does it when we are on walks, at the dog park, at other people’s houses playing, etc. so it doesn’t seem like boredom.

Could it be a nutrient deficiency or that he’s hungry? Or is he just a sicko 😅

We’ve trained “leave it” but that seems to go out the window when he’s off leash at the dog park or really outside of the house in general.

  • Puppy won’t eat expensive food (Australia)

Hi. I have a 13 week medium breed X puppy. She was eating Hills Science diet but I ordered 2 1kg bags of blackhawlk dry puppy food (Because it was cheaper) and the first morning I gave it to her she only ate half and the 2nd day we had to put some egg in it to get her to eat it.. it was $34 just for 2kgs and the Hills is $40+ $10 delivery at Petbarn for a 2kg bag. Is there any way to entice her to eat it, because I don't want to be feeding her egg every day, and I'm on a disability pension, so I can't afford to play musical dog food. tia

  • Picky Dog with Dental Problems Won’t Eat

He has an upcoming appointment at the vet for his dental problems 2 weeks from now. I've tried yogurt – he likes that cause he can just lick it. He also likes scrambled eggs things like sweet potatoes if they are really mashed. I've also tried soft dog food like FROMM. Any ideas on what to give him? He's a 15 year old Bischon with periodontal disease.
