  • feedback on this daily routine?

Hi guys! After 6 weeks of having my puppy we started having a pretty consistent schedule which I am happy with. Admittedly for a while I did spend a lot of time with her but I am starting to intentionally provide her solo play times so she can learn independence, self entertainment, and that boredom is OK.

My puppy is 15 weeks old and she’s been sleeping for about 15 hours a day.

Our routine (roughly) – Puppy sleeps from 10-7 and idk how but she never wakes me up unless it’s 7 to 7:40 – Wake up and immediately I carry her outside to potty. – Then I put her in her playpen in the living room to play by herself for about 10 minutes while I get ready for the day – Then I play with her in the enclosed kitchen area like fetch and do some resource guarding training I keep this max 15 minutes.. I might just let her hang out a bit while I make tea or something – Then it’s food time which I use her kibble to train and the remainder 1/4 amount in her sniffle Mat.. her attention span is honestly pretty good for a puppy our sessions are about 15 min or sometimes it can be 30 but I try not to go over 15 – potty again – solo time in the pen – unwind (I provide her an enrichment toy) and bring her to the crate area in my bedroom for her first nap which is around 9

So we repeat the following give or take and she takes a total of 4 naps a day about 2 hours each nap, but could range from 1.5-3 hours.

I’m trying my hardest to really allow her alone time so each wake period I try to leave the room even for a few minutes. I wasn’t the best at this until recently. Anyways, does this seem like a relatively ok routine? I am open to any feedback. I was stressing because I used to feel exhausted trying to fill up my puppy’s time with things to do and I realized how bad that was for me and for her in the long run.

  • Anyone lost 2 dogs near Apple, OK

I am from Dallas area, and was taking a motorcycle road riding yesterday to Choctaw Nation area, OK.

I think it was 1pm to 2, on route 93 from Apple to Rattan, I stopped after Franzier creek bridge to have a look at the river, there are some trial created by some vechle along the river side. The location is about here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/S1mjEP7MUawZE7U56

Before I reach the bank, 2 small dogs barked and ran at me, there was no other people nor vechle around. I was a little scared and shout them off. But on my way walking back to my bike, I was thinking they may be thrown away? otherwise why no one around.

  • Sweaters for Dogs with Large Chests

I have a beagle/terrier mix and due to his larger chest, it's been difficult to find sweaters that fit. It's possible maybe he's just longer too? Any suggestions on brands who have sweaters/coats for longer and/or broad chested dogs?

  • House training a 4 month old puppy?

    Looking for advice.

I have adopted a rescued 4 month old shih tzu puppy 8 days ago and it’s been a rollercoaster ever since. This isn’t my first puppy, but I’ve never had such an energetic and lively dog. Shes more terrier than my Yorkshire Terrier is! She doesn’t understand the words “no” or praise, so any sort of training techniques have been unsuccessful so far. This is becoming a big problem when it comes to house training. Since she hasnt had her vaccines yet, so I am trying to teach her to pee and poo on puppy training pads, but all attempts have been unsuccessful. All she wants to do is run around, play, and climb on things. I physically put her on the training pad and repeatedly say “pee”. If, by chance, she does pee, she doesnt realise that it’s because of her peeing in that specific location.

Question is, is she too old to be house trained at 4 months?

If you have any advice on calming her down or house training, please let know.

  • I can confirm….it definitely gets better!

We got an 8 week old cocker spaniel pup back in April. I had posted many posts crying for help and advice. A new puppy was waaaaay harder than we ever thought. But! She becomes 9 months on Thursday and I can say, it is absolutely worth the stress and anxiety. Not gonna sugar coat it, yes it is still trialling but definitely happier puppy parents and pup!

Current chilled beside me on sofa, never thought we'd get there!

  • Puppy biting is driving me insane

I have a sweet 9 week old puppy who I adore, but I am so angry and upset about the biting. I understand he is a puppy and with mouth at things but redirection doesn’t seem to be working for us at all. Removing myself/ hands from play works until you go back to playing and his biting starts right back up again. He sleeps plenty and I try to mentally and physically stimulate him everyday but he is not very interested in any toys or treats for more than 3 minutes.

I become very frustrated because I love him but sometimes its like I just want to throw him in his crate and be done, I mean I would never do that because a negative association with the crate is bad but…you get what I mean. Please help me:(

  • People say dogs know how to comfort their human but……

Every documentary I've seen says dogs have developed empathy like humans, and that they come to comfort their human when they cry. But my dog runs away even when she’s been sleeping on me or leaking my face! She's almost five now, and she's been like that since she was a baby. Then she comes back a few minutes later. Why does she do that? 😞

Oh, and they said that the proof they have that dogs have empathy is that when we yawn in front of them, they imitate us. But my dog doesn't. Is that why?😂 She’s never imitated it. Never.

  • We got a 13 week old puppy yesterday

He has gone pee about six times and no matter how many times I take him outside to pee, literally the second we walk inside he goes to the bathroom.

I’m a new puppy owner and have never owned a dog before. I’m a stay at home mom, so any advice would be helpful!

We talked about putting him in puppy school, not sure what anyone’s thoughts are about that.

  • Toy Combination Ideas

Hey! I am looking for ideas to make playtime more engaging for my puppy (not that it currently isnt, but always looking for fun, new ideas)

I am currently trying to combine some of her current toys to « create » a new toy for her. For example I currently have her Kong Teething Stick lodged in one of her balls. (Links below to better visualize what I mean)

Do any of you also combine toys? If so write down your combinations below:)
