  • 2.5 month old toy poodle, not sleeping alone anymore

When I first got him, at only 45 days old, I made it clear in two weeks that he has to make it a habit to sleep alone, currently for not developing any separation anxiety from the very childhood. Initially I slept on the couch in the living room, then he has his pen and crate, limited with his toys. He was doing so well.

Now I shifted to a new house within 15 days of getting him, the house is huge and he settled so well. Now I wfh and all my flatmates/friends work either hybrid or full time in office. He has fun with them all, but has built like a more close bond with me. I give him all his meals and treats.

He is already in professional training since 10 days now at home, and is doing great, BUT THERE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM!

He isnt letting me off his site. He suddenly isnt letting me do meetings, isnt letting me sit alone in the balcony, constantly wants me in the training room even though just a week earlier, he was doing all of that alone, chilled alone with my friends as well.

Can someone please advice me here?

My trainer advised me to stop giving his meals and let my friends do it and take turns from now. Other than that to generally stop giving so much attention to him. Today for the first time I just worked and straight up ignored him, he settled well beside me and chilled.

He has also started barking so much more, earlier he was v non barky generally. He barks at the door when I am in meetings, barks inside the house if I am in the lawn, how do I fix this and make him more independent?

    Please advise!

  • I think I need to take her back

Hello, I made a post not that long about my possible JackChi mix and I’m disappointed in myself that I’m making this post. My puppy is 8 months old, she’s been with me for a little over a week now, and she’s still the sweetest little puppy ever. However, I do not think I am ready to take her on at this time and it hurts me.

I think I have a lot of anxiety and trauma centered around dogs that I didn’t realize was there, the financial part of it weighs heavily on my shoulders as I’m her only caretaker with a part time job; but the biggest weight on my shoulders is: How can I take care of her when I can barely take care of myself.

I can’t 100% puppy proof the backyard when I’m away, she’s small and fast. I don’t make enough to be ready for a surprise vet visit. I’m worried I can’t meet her enrichment needs. I have depression and can barely get myself out of bed even with medication.

I feel that I’m failing her, that I made her think she has a forever home with me. Everyone at home is telling me to tough it out, she’s already attached to me and returning her to the shelter will just make her depressed. My partner and friends are trying to remind me that this decision is mine, and mine alone, and returning her is still looking out for her.

I love her, I love her so much but I can’t take care of her the way she needs. This is supposed to be the happiest part of our lives, but I feel the opposite. I’ll have moments where I feel confident in keeping her, but those are only moments in days full of anxiety and stress.

  • How do you clean puppy’s face?

I have a 5 month old Maltese who fights me every bath time. How can I wash the shampoo from her face without getting soap in her eyes? (It never seems to show that in the commercials!)

  • My Dachshund gets very scared of other dogs when on a walk

    Hello hello!

I've had my beautiful girl for just about 6 months now, she's an adolescent , mini long haired doxie.

She's wonderful and very intelligent, mastered all other parts of training, and is great on a walk alone or with other humans near, but every time we come across another dog, even at quite a long distance, she freezes up and just stares at the other dog until he's out of sight or has passed us. She's absolutely fine at the dog parc, on walks without leash at the beach

I've been reading about possible leash reactivity, techniques that include changing directions, treats to her nose, the "look at me!", I even have some real good treats in my pocket for when she doesn't react/ is okay walking past, and some rare days she will be just fine, the next it feels like we're back to day 1.. and on those days, none of these techniques work sadly

I'm planning on a visit to the vet and maybe considering going to a professional to help, I'm scared I might not be doing things right and making it worse for her, and was wondering if any nice souls would have some good advice on this thread? I'm at a loss and genuinely want to make things easier for the both of us, she doesn't deserve to be scared on a walk 🙁

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this, take care out there wherever you are! <3

  • Not sure if this is allowed, but do any of you have a lab/hound mix named

Reginald? ( i had to put the name here because mods wont let names in titles)

had a dream about him and I can't stop thinking about this dog! he was big and gentle and sweet. loves to cuddle and give dog hugs. I was wondering if any of you have a dog that fits this description and name, maybe I met him in my dream! 😄

  • Dog eats grass

My Boston Terrier eats grass/weeds every time he wants to throw up. He doesnt do this often usually in the mornings but probably does it once a month or few weeks. But I find it odd. He sniffs for a particular kind of weed and eats that until he throws up and then he just goes about his day after. It happens before I feed him his morning meal while we are on a walk in the morning. Anyone's dog do this too? What even is he doing?

  • What are dogs meant to do all day?

I have a four year old lapdog (bichon cavalier cross). He is my baby and I adore him but he is extremely demanding.

He is never left alone (severe separation anxiety) and I can’t leave the house without him (so have to do online groceries).

The day will look like ( a non work day) : wake up, take him for a barroom break, play. Give him a treat. Get ready, shower, take him out for a walk. Walk 1 hour. Very slowly, he sniffs every blade of grass. Get back; lunch. He won’t eat dog food. He won’t even eat plain chicken. It has to be steak, topside of beef, tender cuts of lamb, or chicken if it’s butter basted. He will eat some vegetables but not others.

Make and serve lunch. He will be crying and jumping up my legs, wanting to be carried. We then do “enrichment”, where he will play, either chase or he has puzzle boards, snuffle balls and Mats that are filled with treats or tug with teddies. He has open access to a large yard. The play will be on and off the entire day, to the point where I haven’t furnished my house yet as can’t down to look for furniture as I have to play with him.

How do other people cope, are all dogs like this?

What are dogs normally supposed to do all day (if they don’t have continual interaction)

Thanks in advance for any advice

  • Flying with 2 Small dogs, Need a double carrier.

Hi! Im flying United with 2 small dogs. They are both chihuahua mixes. One is 7lbs the other is around 14lbs. The 14 pounder has anxiety but I do have some Trazodone to give her before the flight. Im flying solo and will have to buy a second seat for them. The flight will be around 5 hours. Im looking for a good duo pet carrier that is easy to carry and is airline/TSA approved, if anyone has any recommendations please let me know!! The maximum dimensions for each pet carrier are 11x11x17 I believe. This is my first time flying with a pet too so if you have any helpful advice it would be greatly appreciated. 🙂

  • Megathread: Why Does My Dog Do That?

Does your dog turn his head when he hears an odd noise? Does your dog bury their food with your pants? This is the thread to ask why.

Please keep this thread to non-medical issues only.
