  • Need advice.. please keep it civil. It’s okay to be candid but not rude.

We had a dog from 2008 until 2018 when she passed away. For years we have been heart broken but in the last 2-3 years I wanted a new dog. The problem is we live in a senior complex (we are on the younger age end) and our son lives here in his late 20s, too). There isn't any pet space and we'd have to walk him/her on the road/sidewalks until the afternoons or evenings when my husband could get us to the local dog parks about 10 minutes away.

We are allowed a dog if if you get a doctor to sign off. They were sued once for not complying so the manager doesn't care. I have a copy of the paper we need to have filled out and it's not really a big deal (my son has autism and I have 2 chronic illnesses so it's not bending the rules). A few people here have dogs and none of them are as young as me.

My husband keeps insisting we wait till we move (it's been 6 years here). He also says we can't afford a dog. I understand that but like I say, I am home all day and except when I feel very badly I can walk a dog half an hour or more up the road. My husband's schedule changed and he is home at 1:30 pm every M-F. We can get a dog to the park a few times a week.

On weekends we hike and walk and the dog would get more exercise of a longer nature.

My dilemma is just wondering if even a shelter/rescue would allow us a dog. I have read so many things about shelters being VERY picky now. They only want older people to adopt old dogs. We're active and don't want a lazy snoozer (or a crazy high energy dog). Our last dog was a pointer/lab!

She was from a rescue when we lived in another state. I personally raised her from a puppy and did all the training. I got a lot of exercise walking her several times a day.

I live on Petfinder and have seen so many dogs I would have adopted the last few years. My husband loves dogs as well but he keeps saying it costs too much, we don't want to move with a dog, let's wait until….I don't want to wait anymore. He says I better earn some money if I want a dog.

I'm 60 next year and want a dog again. I am not trying to be selfish. Like I said, our beloved pet passed in 2018. It's not a quick decision and I know the bulk of the taking care would be on me (feeding/day walking). I am home all day and I spend most of it on chores and cooking/cleaning.

I hope I explained this all right. I'd appreciate any (kind) advice. I need a pet to love again. I also think it would help me look forward and not be so health obsessed.

  • Sickness in the house

My partner and I are horrifically ill with influenza. Just so she wouldn’t feel left out, our 7 month old pup has come down with a cough / cold too.

The problem is, she has no idea she’s sick. She’s still full of energy, destructive, starving, and absolutely feral.

I was so sick I had to be hospitalised. I have taken her for a couple of walks and have nearly collapsed on both. My partner has taken her on some short walks too, but not our usual long ones which keep her nice and happy. She’s destroyed our backyard and our shoes. She finishes enrichment activities at light speed and the only respite I get is when she sleeps.

Any ideas for keeping her occupied 🥲 I don’t want to wear her out with a huge run at the park because she has a nasty cough

  • Intermediate gunner kennel?

Anyone successfully fit this in their subaru crosstrek or similar? According to the dimensions I think it could maybe fit but would be tight. But I don’t wanna buy and have it not fit 😩

  • How much should I pay for dog care?

We have five dogs. My husband and I both started working 12 hours now and so we want to find someone to take care of our dogs while we are gone(come once a day to let them go potty, run for a bit). I don't really know how this works or what the standard is. TIA.

  • Heavy chewer recommendations!?

I have a 12 week old Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd mix. I bought him a product called fursicle it is similar to the woof pupsicle however he can get it open in less than 10 minutes.

Has anyone used the woof pupsicle with a very heavy chewer and is it secure where it screws together?

Or have recommendations for a similar product for heavy chewers

  • How do I get her to sleep in?

I'm so tired. My puppy is 14 weeks old.

We've had her for 3 weeks and she usually wakes up around 6:40. This morning she woke up at 5:40. I don't know how much longer I can do this. Please help.
