  • Normal 12 week old puppy sleep?

Hey yall, trying to figure out how to navigate what me and my partner are calling the witching hour lol. Our 12 week old puppy is super sweet, naps a lot throughout the day, plays etc. she goes out for the last time around 10pm, then every night at 1am she’s wide awake. We take her out, she goes potty all business and then back in the crate. She cries, sprints around, smacks the bars of her little crate every night from 1-2 without fail. It’s like she’s conditioned herself that from 1am to 2am she should be the most awake she’s ever been. Is this just something we have to wait out? She’s got a snuggle puppy, teething toy, etc all in her crate. Laying next to her and comforting her doesn’t seem to help. I see a ton of posts from people with 8-10 week old puppies who are going out once a night so not sure how normal this is?

  • Help with my 6 month puppy pleasee

I hate to say this but my 6 month labrador puppy is giving me a really tough time . She is adorable but has been difficult to handle lately. She does not sleep almost the entire night and doesn't let anyone else sleep and nibbles everything and literally everything. She is not agressive, but starts to nip when petted which is making it difficult to train her ( I am genuinely very concerned with this one).

She is my first dog and came to me in not so planned manner so I am still learning and reading about taking care of dogs. Please do help me . I really need help with her, i haven't slept for days ..

  • 14 week old can’t be left alone

My 14-week-old Lab puppy can’t be left alone. She’s crate trained and naps in the crate during the day and at night. During that time I can leave the room with no issue.

When she wakes up, we let her out as soon as we hear her move or whine — I don’t want her to think barking gets her out.

I’ve been practicing short separations: I say “back soon,” leave the room (she’s not in the crate), close the door, and set a timer. The longest I’ve managed is about 1 minute 15 seconds, and I can’t hit that consistently.

When I come back, I say “good girl” and give a treat. If she barks before I return, I go in and ignore her.

I need to be able to leave the house for errands, but I can’t even leave the room yet. What should I change or focus on next?

Any step-by-step advice from people who’ve worked through this would be really appreciated.

  • Have a voucher for Bully Bunches ($5 off)

If anyone’s interested, just shoot me a DM. BB told me it’ll be gone soon anyway, and since I lost my dog last year, I don’t really have a use for it anymore.

    Thanks.

  • My dog doesn’t leave my side

Hey guys, so my dog hasn't left my side for the last couple of weeks, and that for him is weird. I even took a pregnancy test to see if that was the reason (I'm not pregnant). Yesterday, he napped with me and allowed me to cuddle him. That has never happened in the 6 years that I've had him, and he is only six years old.

I took him to the vet to get a check-up, and everything in the urine test (I don't remember what it's called, but it's like the standard annual check-up test) came back perfect.

Should I push for more tests, or has he just all of a sudden become a different, more clingy dog?

When I say he doesn't leave my side, I mean literally my side, like if I'm in a chair, he is right there, all day, every day. I'm trying to convey how weird this is. He does nothing now during the day, other than staying with me. Is he sick????? am I sick??? I'm scared something really bad is going on and he is trying to tell me.

  • What should I be looking out for when buying a puppy?

I've found the perfect miniature dachshund pup on gumtree, and I just want to make sure I don't get scammed or played a fool in any way, since it's my first time ever buying a pet

What are some things I should be asking the breeder to provide/verify, and some things I should be looking out for like any red flags, etc

I just want the smoothest experience for acquiring the little guy and don't want to get scammed

  • Separation Anxiety & Crate Training

Hi everyone! I have an almost 5 month old Labrador that I rescued at 15ish weeks who is amazing in a lot of ways. He is great on a leash, listens pretty well for a puppy, doesn’t bite much, etc. Overall he’s a total sweetheart and going to be a great dog.

However, he has horrible separation anxiety when I leave the house. In terms of his crate, he seems to be indifferent to it. He willingly goes in there to sleep at night, will eat his meals there, and will go if I tell him to for a nap (with some whining when I leave the room). The crate is currently in my bedroom because if he can’t see me he won’t be able to fall asleep. Anyway, the biggest issue is that when I crate him and he hears me leave the house, he lasts about 10 seconds before barking and whining. I have been “leaving” 3-5 times a day for a strict 60 seconds for the last 2 weeks and it hasn’t gotten any better. I was planning to keep doing the 60 seconds until he got better then move to 90, 120, etc., but he doesn’t seem to be making much progress. Does anyone have any advice on what to do here? I feel like I’m losing my mind and want to be able to leave my home!

Some things to note: – I live in an apartment and received a noise complaint when I left him for an hour (I didn’t know he was barking and whining) so I want to be careful about his barking but also need my life back and want to be able to leave my home! – He does fairly well when I go to shower, use the bathroom, etc. but he just always wants to be around me, but sometimes whines (I can also hear him walking up to the doors when I’m in another room). – He had a foster parent before me who kept him in his crate in the dark in a laundry room when they would leave and at night, so I wonder if he has some trauma from that? – I have seen some improvement with him being alone in another room, in his crate alone, etc.
