  • Does feeding adult food too soon stunt puppy growth?

So as of right now I have a 6 month old chocolate lab that came from a very good breeder in the finger lakes regions. This breeder told us that the puppy as of 10 weeks was already on adult dog food(4health strive 90) so I have continued feeding her the adult dog food. I guess my question is did I stunt my dogs growth by not feeding her puppy food?

  • Anyone else’s pup blowing their coat like crazy this week

I don’t know what happened but my dog’s winter coat is coming off like a snowstorm. I’ve swept my whole floor twice and it’s STILL floating around 🤦‍♂️ I used to hate brushing time but somehow this new glove thing actually calmed her down (miracle, right?). Not trying to sell anything — just glad I don’t have to vacuum every 3 minutes anymore 😅 Anyone else found something that works better than the usual metal brushes?

  • I’m losing the will to live

I brought home a staffy puppy 3 weeks ago, he’s almost 12 weeks now. I’ve read about the puppy blues and felt like I was getting a handle on it all, with the biting, not listening etc, as he’s only young. I got pretty happy leaving him for 2 hours on his own in his crate (it’s open) with a play pen around it. Today, whilst I was at home and he was on one of his scheduled naps he decided to start chewing the cage – bearing in mind he has been put down for naps since we brought him home, occasional howling, not much else. Today he got his jaw stuck in his crate, I was working from home so quickly got up as it was not a noise I had heard him make before and it was stuck, I managed to get it out, checked him over and he was fine. Now I am absolutely terrified to leave him. I don’t know what to do, I need to work, but when I’m out I can’t stop worrying.

  • extreme separation anxiety

my puppy was separated from his litter too early. i thought he was much older, but on the day we picked him up they told us he was only 7 weeks old. my problem is that he cannot STAND it if i so much as leave the room. i can't figure out how to effectively potty train him, he absolutely SCREAMS in his pen, and i live in an apartment. seriously i can't do this. i'm close to giving up, i need so much help. he's not really food motivated, either. he only wants me to play with him, and i have to clean sometimes. my place is a mess. help

  • Smelly face

My dog went to daycare and came back in early October with a horrible smelling face (like dirty rag or sweat socks). He wasnt washed right away, maybe 1-2 weeks later. Smell after bath is still there. Then last week we got him a haircut at the groomers and his face still smells (a little less but still there). I use dry shampoo but the scent goes away after a day. Any suggestions?

  • Separation Anxiety & Leaving the House

Hi everyone! I have an almost 5 month old Labrador that I rescued at 15 weeks who is amazing in a lot of ways. He is great on a leash, listen really well for a puppy, doesn’t bite much, etc. Overall he’s a total sweetheart and going to be a great dog.

However, he has horrible separation anxiety when I leave the house (he is crated when I leave). In terms of his crate, he seems to be indifferent to it. He willingly goes in there to sleep at night, will eat his meals there, and will go if I tell him to for a nap (with minimal whining these days if he is really tired). The crate is currently in my bedroom because if he can’t see me he won’t be able to fall asleep. I have tried covering the crate when I leave and he doesn’t seem to love that either.

Anyway, the biggest issue is that when I crate him and he hears me leave the house, he lasts about 10 seconds before barking and whining. I have been “leaving” 3-5 times a day for a strict 60 seconds for the last 2 weeks and it hasn’t gotten any better. I was planning to keep doing the 60 seconds until he got better then move to 90, 120, etc., but he doesn’t seem to be making much progress. Does anyone have any advice on what to do here? I want to be able to leave the house for an hour or two and not worry about my neighbors hating me or traumatizing my pup!

Some things to note: – I live in an apartment and received a noise complaint when I left him for an hour (I didn’t know he was barking and whining) so I want to be careful around his noises but also need my life back and want to be able to leave my home! – I live alone but my boyfriend has been here a ton so that he is never alone – He doesn’t fairly well when I go to shower, use the bathroom, etc. but he just always wants to be around me (I can hear him walking up to the doors when I’m in another room). He will also go hang in another room without me sometimes, which I feel like is good? – He had a foster before me who kept him in his crate in the dark in a laundry room when they would leave and at night, so I wonder if he has some trauma from that? – I have seen some improvement with him being alone in another room, in his crate alone, etc.

  • Seeking a Cockapoo for our family

I am looking to get a cockapoo for our family and am struggling to find a good breeder I can feel confident in. I'm new to buying a dog so would appreciate some advice. The two breeders I was starting to look at are:

    Happy farms puppies: https://www.happyfarmpuppies.com

    Cute Cockapoos: https://www.cutecockapoos.com

I was really liking Cute Cockapoos until I ran into these pretty brutal Yelp reviews:

    https://www.yelp.com/biz/cute-cockapoos-manawa-2

They do have positive reviews elsewhere.

This morning I discovered this small breeder, Gingerly Cockers and cockapoos and they seem perfect but they don't have cockapoos until 2027: https://www.gingeralecockersandcockapoos.com

This last breeder seems perfect but boy it's tough to find a breeder I can feel really confident in. I just want an ethically raised puppy with good genetic testing and am willing to pay for that.

I appreciate any advice this forum can provide! Thank you
