  • I’m looking to volunteer in a kennel as a beginner but I’m struggling to find a shelter.

I’m M19 living in London (specifically NW2). I liked animals since I was 5 but never got to experience with them. Lately I’ve been thinking that I should volunteer at a kennel but I can’t seem to find a shelter that would accept me. I applied at Battersea, they rejected me due to many applicants. With Mayhew, I tried applying but it’s been 4 weeks and no response, I called them last week and said to look for other shelters which I’m guessing that means they also rejected. On RSCPA it’s all filled up and those that are vacant are outside London and I almost never leave London and I don’t have a driver’s license. On All Dogs Matter I’m required to travel to Essex. I can’t seem to find a place where I can foster dogs. I tried BorrowMyDoggy but there’s like 10% success rate and even then I don’t get to see them again, they say they’re busy or that I’m better off volunteering at a shelter.

It seems that I’m all out of options. I don’t wanna adopt yet because I’m still a beginner and I wanna see how it’s gonna be like. I’d appreciate any suggestions.

  • I don’t know what to do with my teen puppy

Hey everyone! I have a golden puppy, who's currently 7 months old. He has always been the sweetest puppy ever, very easy to train, never chewed anything in the house, loose leash walking by himself… He was an angel.

But now he's enter his teenage stage and he's gone completely crazy. I have always heard teen puppies were hard, but he's taken a full change. As soon as I take him out for any of his daily walks, he begins running around in a zoomies way, jumping and chewing on the leash nonstop.

He's usually calmer in his morning and mid-day walks, but he goes crazy in the evening and night ones.

I have tried everything with him, his food, his favourite treats or toys, standing still and not interacting with him to see if he stops.. nothing works.

I don't know what else to do, I'm not sure if he'll grow out of it and I should just wait until he's out of his teenage phase or if there's a way in which I can try to train him to stop this kind of behaviour. I appreciate any suggestions y'all could have!

  • Help ! What can I do?

My 3 month old Shih Tzu ..she has been here a week .. so not long . We started right away with the crate . ( the perfect size ) she screamed bloody murder over half an hour at night .. we tried slowly introducing to her to it during the day in little increments.. every single time she goes in there no matter how long she immediately poops and then it’s all over her with a huge mess .. granted she had already gone outside .. we tried doing a playpen .. same thing .. we could leave for 5 minutes come back and a mess everywhere .. eventually she stops screaming but we can’t leave her knowing she’s in a mess .. we are in trouble !! Help please ?

  • do huskies need shoes for snowy hikes?

Title is pretty much it, I have a husky/malamute/golden retriever/mutt mix, predominantly husky, who's very active. I take her for long runs in a city almost every day, she always kicks my butt and has never had an issue, but that's in moderate weather and on grass and concrete.

I want to take her on some snowy mountain hikes this winter, none longer than 10 miles, and I'm worried about being an irresponsible owner who assumes husky = doesn't need cold weather gear. The temps will be from mid 20s to 40s (F°) and we won't go if it's raining (sorry! I'm not that hardcore) but will in dry snow (obviously to a point).

    any advice is greatly appreciated!

  • Chewy Gift

After I canceled an order with chewy due to the loss of my beloved dog of 12 years, they surprised me with a beautiful vase of flowers and a handwritten sympathy card. I’m truly touched by their compassion and wanted to give them a huge shoutout for going above and beyond with their customer service.

  • 7 months.. I’m losing my mind.

Adolescence came at us like a ton of bricks. At the same time, my girl (7 months) lost her brother to cancer last week (he was 6). Her world has been thrown for a loop so I’m sure some of this is her acting out due to that, but oh my goodness. Any tips or advice? The biggest issues are: jumping on people when greeting them or when she’s excited and mouthing (not hard, just like play biting) along with just generally not listening. Please tell me it gets better 😂
