  • Introducing my rott to a kitten

I want to preface and say I did read the wiki on how to introduce a cat to a dog. It all makes sense and it's something I am capable of doing, but 'm not yet comfortable enough to try it, and I would still like someone to let me know if they think my dog is capable of cohabitating with a cat.

I need advice from people who are educated in dog behavior, specifically how to introduce them to a cat. I have a 7 year old female rottweiler. She's never shown a prey drive until this year when she discovered bunnies in our yard. She found a nest and ate all the babies, and she chased the adults out of our yard. I don't know how relevant that is to my question, but I thought I'd share.

So here's where I need guidance and advice. My 4 year old son has been begging me for a cat for over a year. We take him places so he can get his cat fix but that's never enough. Then this spring a stray showed up, she wasn't feral and we assume she came from an amish barn. We live in the country. That cat was pregnant and had 3 kittens, only one survived. The one that survived started coming to my house when it was barely big enough to begin exploring. That cat is now about 8-9 months old and we've semi adopted it We built him a home and we feed him. He had an eye cyst that ruptured and we took him to the vet. He's now blind in one eye. We play outside with him every day, sometimes we spend time with him in our garage and a few times he's spent the day in my bedroom snuggled on my bed with my kids (2 and 4). The mama kitty isn't keen on people so we rarely see her. We named baby kitty "Mr Whiskers." And while I think he enjoys being indoors, he still loves the outdoors. My rott did get out of the fence one day and she was face to face with mama kitty. They were about 10 feet apart. Mama kitty held her ground. My dog just stared at her. When mama kitty ran, that's when my dog chased. My dog has gone nuts this summer seeing Mr Whiskers outside. My dog has been outside and seen Mr Whiskers on the other side of the fence and she stares. When I say her name and use baby talk telling her it was a baby, she wagged her nub. She's only reactive when the cat moves or runs. She barks, she jumps up and down. I truly think it's more curiosity. I don't think she flips to prey drive until she sees it run away. Now, I'm not too terribly concerned because I don't know if Mr Whiskers will ever want to be a predominantly indoor cat.

Despite having Mr Whiskers, my son is still begging me for a cat. I thought, maybe if I got a kitten that hadn't been exposed to dogs and wasn't afraid of them, and if introduced the right way, maybe I could show my dog that a kitten is a friend. So, can this be done, and if so how? Do I bring home a kitten in a carrier and let my dog sniff it? The only way I'm ever going to know if my dog would eat a cat is to put a cat in front her face. I know she gets excited, but that doesn't mean she wants to eat it right? We thought about getting my son a kitten for his birthday next spring if we felt we had enough information and education to make sure a cat wasn't harmed.

Please tell me everything I need to know so we can make an educated decision.

  • YouTube puppy training video – whole series?

I brought this puppy home (now about 9 mos old) to be my roommate's dog. As a very energetic, eager, and LARGE puppy, he needs to be taught. All I hear from my roommate is, "No. No. No!!" all day long. I can't stand it. My roommate is intelligent but depressed, lazy, smokes weed too much…. disabled veteran with defeatist attitude, plus very passive-aggressive. Wants someone else to do it for him. So I need a helpful, not boring, maybe entertaining video series for training this puppy. I want a series so he won't have to search and I can just set him up and let him go through it. So please– I need your best recommendations! Thanks.

  • Puppy jumped off bed 🙁

My 13wk puppy jumped off my bed today and obviously did not land it. This is literally only his third time being on my bed because I've been so scared of him falling off and hurting himself. I was right next to him when it happened, I just wasn't fast enough to stop it 🙁 He landed on his side and made a tiny yelp and immediately got up. I freaked out and went to him and he went under my bed and seemed scared. After a couple seconds he crawled into my lap on the floor and sat there with me. I felt and rubbed him everywhere to see if anything was sore or bothering him and he didn't react. He's been eating, drinking and using the bathroom normally. He's also still been playing and barking like normal but he does seem more calm and sleepy. Do you think it's just cause he's spooked from this morning or should I be worried ? He's still acting like how he normally does, just more sleepy 🙁

  • Potty pad trays: worth it or a waste?

I have a 6 year old small dog dealing with medical issues (liver function related). She is on a bunch of medications that have caused her to have increased thirst/urination and be unable to hold her pee like normal.

She often has accidents in the night and during the day when I’m not home. This is new for her and directly tied to the medications/liver issues.

I’ve got her all set up on a big sheet of linoleum with an ex-pen and her crate and now potty pads. I’m looking at getting some type of tray but unsure if they’re helpful or what type.

There’s some options with like a grate on top that say it prevents them from stepping in it which seems nice but then it adds a step of needing to wash the grate every day.

Any opinions from those who have used these before? I never used potty pads at all in her life, just went straight to potty training her to go outside so this is all new for me. I just want her to have a potty option that also prevents it from leaking into the ex-pen if it goes off the side of the pad (this has happened).

I’m unsure how long she’ll be dealing with this, we just got her started on the right medications and I’m just taking it one day at a time.

  • my dog is peeing inside, pls help

I have a 10 lb male chihuahua mix who has been having frequent accidents in the house. he is neutered and around 8-10 years old. he only has pee accidents in 1 room of the house. he also poops in that room but i’m less bothered by that as it’s easier to clean. I wouldn’t be bothered by the pee accidents, but it is becoming a daily thing and the room is carpeted, so I feel like it’s never truly clean no matter what products I use.

I’m looking for any advice to either help prevent accidents or do a thorough cleanup. I’ve considered blocking off the room, but it’s a very wide opening (like 140 in), so I don’t know if there’s a practical and affordable solution. I’m also worried that if I block access to that room, he’ll just find a new place to pee. I’ve considered diapers, but I have no experience with that so I’m not sure how it would go and if he would be comfortable. he does get regular potty breaks. Idk if it’s relevant but I also have a 10 lb female dog who is fixed and not prone to accidents. I really appreciate any thoughts/ideas, thank you!
