  • Cockapoos near Philly

I’m looking into getting my first dog and after a lot of research decided on a Cockapoo. Does anyone have any suggestions where to look? I’m located in Philadelphia.

I am staying away from puppy mills and do not want to spend $3000 for a dog either.

    Thanks!!

  • How to crate train new puppy with older dog who doesn’t use crate anymore

My dog just turned 1yo and coming into the spring we are getting another puppy. My dog will be around 1.5yo at this time. I crate trained my dog for the first 6months of his life and now he roams free at night and while I am out of the house. Prior he was in his crate at night and when out of the house. He no longer has interest in going into his crate.

With that being said, I would really like to crate trained the new puppy. Until they are potty trained and ready to roam free. How do I go about organizing this? My dog goes to daycare every week day so long hours are not something I intend on doing for the puppy as they will go with him. But when I go to the gym or need to leave the house for short moments I would like to have them in a crate. Do I have to start making my #1 dog practice crate training again for puppy #2? Will puppy still manage to crate training properly when dog #1 roams free?

What is the best way to handle this situation? Please give any input, anything will be helpful!

Additional notes: – my first dog had 3 sides of crate covered but freaked out with all four – crate is located in nearest common area as it’s massive (but can be closed off for puppy size) and will not fit in bedroom – I did sleep on a futon on the floor for 3 months for my dog to sleep through the night. But mostly for the ease of being able to bring him outside immediately when necessary throughout the night. And I really don’t want to do that again.

  • My puppy died of parvo

My girlfriend and I got an 8 week border collie and she had to be put within 3 days of us looking after her. She was so tiny and perfect but just declined rapidly as soon as we got her. We got her mid day on the 19th and had to put her down the morning of the 21st as her symptoms were just too much for her and she was struggling so much. I feel like there is a hole inside my heart that belongs to her now and i miss her so much even for the short time i was with her. A puppy transport picked her up from the breeder on the night of the 18th and dropped her to us on the 19th and she started immediately showing symptoms that night but the breeder denied it was their fault and said they got the rest of the litter tested and it came back negative which i just find so hard to believe.

  • Why are people still harming stray dogs on the street?

Today on my way home, I found a dog with a head injury and bleeding heavily. I took it to a nearby vet, and only left after the vet said it wasn't serious. I sincerely hope that such incidents will happen less often

  • Need Advice

I found a generic notice on my door warning about being fined or my dogs being evicted if I dont pick up their poop.

I always, always, always pick up after them if they poop where people walk.

If they poop in the bushes I do not.

How do I handle this? Do I ask if this is directed at me specifically or if its just a generic reminder for everyone? Do I ask why its on my door and who its coming from, do I ask id there was a complaint directly toward me? Do I ask for proof that I havent picked up?

  • Online course/accreditation?

My overall goal is to be a trainer in the future but right now I don't have access to a mentor, in person course/academy, or even a starter job with animals (live middle of nowhere). I was wondering if doing an online course to get an accreditation would be a decent starting point to then get some kind of assistant job once I'm able to move, or take on a few private clients for super cheap to get some experience?

If this isn't a terrible idea, what courses have good reputations and actually mean something?

  • concerned for a friend’s dog

i'm adding behavior as flair but the behavior i am concerned about is my friend's. i am dog sitting her dog this weekend, 1yr 2mos with mine, 11 mos and my boy is fully house trained and he walks around 5-6 times a day. i live in a studio apartment so it's really worrying that my friend who owns the 1yr 2mos old dog does not 1) want us walking her dog outside to potty. he is in a diaper and since getting to my place 5 hours ago, has already pooped twice, 2) also does not want us to walk her dog around inside spaces like ross or marshalls and would only want the dog to be carried or put in a cart. friend said that it's because her dog just showered and she doesn't want him getting dirty? 🙁 background of this dog is that he was from an abusive home and my friend took him in 6mos ago. he has so much energy that he would often have zoomies around place and would snap at / bully my dog 🙁 i am concerned that friend's dog is not getting the exercise he needs to let all the puppy energy out. and it would really be helpful for him to get a structure to grow out of his aggression.

please help – how do i tell this to my friend?

  • Older dog snipped at puppy

Our older dog is small but she seems to be getting really annoyed with the puppy pawing at her and jumping and using puppy teeth. She ended up snipping at her from far away a few days ago and then last night she snipped at the puppy. Just not sure how to proceed, the older dog is not aggressive I think she’s just trying to tell the puppy to knock it off. I’ve seen a few places say that it’s how dogs reach each other, others say to try and keep puppy away till they’re not biting everything. Just looking for opinions or advice or what’s worked for you guys! Anything helps

Puppy is about 10/11 weeks, older dog is around 10 and have had her for 7 years.

  • People petting without asking

I need to vent. I have an adorable 4 month old puppy who is half lab and half rat terrier. Being half terrier, she's very smart but very stubborn, so I'm training her early. Potty training has been a success after 3 weeks! That said, she still needs work on a leash. It's difficult to keep her focused when half the people I walk across don't ask to pet her and walk right up to her. At 9pm, I had a group of college boys come up behind me and crouch down to pet my puppy without asking. It startled me as I didn't know what they were doing at first, so I turned around and gave them a bad look. When I realized they were petting the dog I told them they needed to ask me first and to not come up behind a woman they don't know. I didn't know what they were trying to do at first. They got angry with me and called me a b*tch, and kept trying to call the dog to get her excited even as I was walking away from them. They followed me about a block, then gave up. I don't think my response was unreasonable. I've noticed people, particularly young men, get VERY aggressive with me when I ask them to ask me first. What have you guys done about this?
