  • is my puppy just submissive?

My puppy is a 5 months old jrt, and he's never been afraid of other dogs, even bigger. But when he plays fight with them he has this behaviour that I can't quite understand the meaning of (except with that one border collie). When they play fight he will go belly up with his tail tucked, which I first thought was a sign of him being scared or intimidated, sometimes he'll even come back to me and put his front legs on my leg. But then he always goes back to play fight with the other dogs instantly ? like, does he just submit fast, is he actually scared, does he need to find his confidence ? It's just the tucked tail that I am unsure of.

Also there's this 7 months old Australian shepherd that it pisses off so much haha. when he does that she just barks, and coupled with my puppy's behaviour we're never really sure if we should or when to separate them.

  • 3 month old puppy previously kept in insolation

im finally picking up my 3 month old puppy called from an animal shelter next week. he's a healthy bundle of joy with a lot of energy and curiosity.

the animal shelter currently has issues with disease management and 2 sick puppies have caused all puppies to go into lockdown. tofu was found on the streets a month ago and since then, he has not left his kennel to go on walks or to any outside playing area, he has not met any other dogs and he is used to just peeing in his kennel. he has spend basically an entire month alone, expect for the few vistits my his assigned care giver for cleaning, feeding and playing.

i plan to take socialisation very slow. he might however be confronted with other dogs during litter training, as i don't have a private garden. what precautions can i take and what should i expect?

  • I am having a very hard time with my puppy beagle.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love having him. I have always dreamt of having a dog of my own for many years now. He is 55 days old, and I knew that puppies could be a bit handful. But I never realised it would be this hard. I am constantly running behind him, cleaning and wiping him after he goes potty. I am trying my best to potty train him, and I genuinely don’t know what else to do. I am always cleaning up one thing after another. I love him so so much that I would go on a war against the entire world for him. I have only had him for five days now, and I know it’s not supposed to be easy.

But I am not able to keep up with all this. I have to constantly tend to him. Plus, at night, if I am not in the room, he cries so loud. He is constantly whining and crying if he doesn’t see me. I haven’t slept properly in five days. On top of this, when he excretes, he eats his poop. This is giving me the worst headache. When I pot and pooping, I immediately pick it up, but any poop at night, he eats it, and there is nothing I can do. I am so stressed out all the time. I am worried that this is how my life is going to be. Is he suffering from separation anxiety? Or am I doing something wrong? Please, I could use any advice.

Desperately, A first time dog owner.

  • I don’t know if I was meant to have a dog

I know, this will sound awful.

My fiance has always had dogs growing up and wanted one so bad. I never really had dogs and was pretty so so on the idea. But, over time, seeing how happy dogs made her when she saw them, i started to like them too.

I noticed that I got happy when someone's dog smiled at me or wanted pets. And I started to think maybe I would actually be ok with a dog.

We are adults with jobs and a house and we love going outside. After years of the idea growing on me we pulled the trigger on a 3 month old at tue shelter.

We instantly loved her at the shelter and she was so happy to see us. We were so smitten.

But after we got her home we both started to get scared.

I'm not sure she's happy with us or our home. My fiance is worried she just wanted to relive what she had but its not the same with a different dog. And I'm not sure I'm going to be good with her. And the connection just doest seem there like it did.

I feel awful. She is the sweetest thing and I want to want her. And I want to give her the best home. But I also don't want to be selfish and try to soldier on if it's bad for us and for the dog.

It's only been a day so maybe I'm just freaking out.

Any advice or to know if others feel this way would be appreciated. And if im a terrible person, I get it, it's OK to tell me.

  • Puppy scared in the streets

    Hello everyone 😊

I brought my sweet Cairn Terrier puppy home 12 days ago and he's a sweet puppy. He is 12 weeks. He's doing well at home with our two cats and our two kids. But we cannot for the love of me start potty training as he is scared of the streets. Our neighbourhood is very noisy, lots of motorbikes, trucks even at night, schools and he refuses to go outside, starts shaking also. We called the man we got him from and he told us to force him since he will have no other choice but to live here. I was really angry at this piece of advice I refuse to force my puppy into doing anything.

The only good thing is that he looooves going to the park ! He thrives ! He explores, sniffes, relax. We meet other dogs and it goes really really well, we meet friendly people and he likes them. But he never pees or poops in the park either …

We tried giving him treats when in the streets but he does not accept them. He's too stressed.

    Any tips ? 😊

    Have a lovely day
