  • Help! Puppy has gone crazy a week after his neuter!

Our 8 month old Sheltie was neutered on 11/13. For a week, he was taking Trazadone and a pain medication. That ended a week after his neuter which was 11/20 and since then, he has gone crazy. Almost to the point we can’t handle him. Running through the house barking at anything or nothing at all. Won’t settle down for naps, having accidents in the house. Trying to escape out of the child gates. Our sweet, house trained boy has turned into a very unlikable dog and I’m worried he’s going to pull a stitch. It will be 10 days tomorrow. He’s a barky high energy dog anyway but this is out of hand. I’ve had many pets spayed and neutered and don’t ever remember this type behavorior. Should I be concerned or is he possibly having rebound effects from the Trazadone? Thanks for any help or insight!

  • Taking puppy outside after her final shot

my 16 week old puppy went to the vet today to get her last vaccination but she’s due for her second round of lepto in 2 weeks. i’ve been patiently waiting for the time to take her outside for potty training/socialize but the vet technician recommended I wait another 2 weeks until she gets her final lepto shot. I asked her about the risk of parvo in my area and she said lepto cases are more frequent than parvo due to rats but I will not be taking her for long walks, just outside my apartment to potty. Do you think it’s still a risk and I should just wait it out until she’s 18 weeks?

  • Crash tested kennel for small dogs

I’m looking for a crash tested kennel for my two small dogs and I’m not sure what to get. I see a lot of talk about the sleepypod, but I don’t know of any other good brands to look into. I do not want a harness. Also, what is the different between a crash tested kennel and a crash tested carrier? Is a kennel better to have than a carrier?

    Thank yall!

  • My dog keeps shredding our outdoor lounge cushions

This is the second lounge we’ve gotten, the cushions are just foam with covers on them, the covers were a thick fabric but she’s still managed to chew through it.

She 9 months old, a husky x border collie x Nova Scotia duck rolling retriever and Labrador.

I’ve tried putting things on the lounge to stop her, I’ve sprayed it with vinegar, I’ve used fitted sheets over the whole lounge but none has worked.

She only does it when she and our other dog are locked outside, and no one is in sight. They get locked outside when my partner gets up for work because if they’re left inside they get zoomies in the morning and end up waking the baby up early.

so whenever she’s locked outside and can’t see anyone through the window, I’ve never actually seen her do it, but I am 100% confident that it’s her and not our other dog-he’s 4 and has never been a chewer, and she is still a puppy.

  • So we got a new bed and my dogs are struggling to jump up, looking for a ramp.

So I have 3 dogs, one older bigger one and 2 smaller dogs but we ended up buying a new bed and frame and the dogs are struggling to jump up on it. One of the smaller ones actually jumped and didn't make it and fell backwards on the floor so I'm definitely worried they will get hurt, but I don't know anything about ramps or stairs, etc..

There's not a lot of room in the bedroom but getting the dogs to not sleep on the bed isn't an option so does anyone know a good ramp/stair that will make it easier for them to get on and off the bed??

    Thanks.

    Edit; the bed+frame= 23 inches.

  • Puppy settled down for a nap on his own!

At first I thought maybe he was sick because this isn’t normal for him then I realized I usually have to put him in his play pen to settle down after our walk. When I do that he chills out and naps right away. But today he took himself to his favorite spot on the couch and curled up and went to sleep! I’ve been waiting for this day! He’s six months old. Hope this continues but so proud of him!

  • Picking up pup tomorrow and don’t feel excited at all…

Am I making the wrong decision?

Everyone has been saying how excited I must be, and I’m not really excited at all.

It’s not that I don’t want the pup – I do. I’ve bought him all his things, I’ve picked a name, taken time off work and this is a really good time for me to ensure he gets the best start.

I’ve just been really deflated by everyone telling me how awful my life is going to be for the next 4-6 months.

This is not my first dog, but I had my previous dog for almost 16 years so I really don’t remember the puppy stages.

I AM looking forward to having a new best friend, but I just feel like I’m about to embark on something g horrendous. It feels… ominous.

    Am I broken?

  • Advice for having my puppy around parents’ reactive senior dog

I got a 4 month old less than a week ago we’re only just starting her training. My family have a reactive 13 year old (who is big enough to do damage). She’s an angel with people but very poorly socialized with new dogs and got in occasional bad fights back when they had two dogs. My parents are struggling with the idea that I might skip Thanksgiving (and down the line Christmas.) We tried to introduce the two of them on a walk today so that neither was on their home turf, but their dog was barking, both were pulling, and then theirs lunged when they got close causing my puppy to start growling at her. We immediately went our separate ways.

I am more than happy to skip holidays to prioritize my puppy’s safety and cause our old girl as little anxiety as possible, but figured I’d exhaust all options first to try and make my family happy (plus it would be lovely if eventually they could coexist — it’s hard for me to accept I’ll miss old girl’s last years.) If we try to introduce them again I expect I’ll hire a trainer to be there, but in the meantime does anybody have experience with and/or tips on how to introduce a reactive senior to a puppy to at least the point that they can be separated in the same house without going insane? Am I best off just accepting that until my puppy can handle being alone I can’t be at my family’s home?
