Hi everyone! We are in the trenches with a 10 week old Golden Retriever puppy, so far it’s been the typical puppy things and this probably is too but we want to make sure we’re doing everything we can… the last few days he has reallllly upped the biting and nipping but it’s kind of turned into almost aggressive behavior. This morning I picking him up to put his leash on him and take him outside and he lunged for my faced and then growled when I pulled myself away.
So far if he starts biting us we remove ourselves and step away from him while saying “no”. He has been going for our clothes big time and growling when we remove him and then lunges for us while we are trying to step away. Basically I just want to see if we are on the right track, is there more we can be doing? Since this newer biting with lunging seems slightly aggressive we want to nip it as early as possible.
We feed him 3 times a day via either slow feeder or snuffle mat. We also incorporate lick mats, the WOOF pupsicle lick ball, and bully sticks. We are crate training him for overnight, when we leave, and occasional naps during the day while we work, otherwise we play with him with a flirt pole, soft toys, and chew toys, we tether him once or twice a day so he gets used to calming down while on his lease and we also have a pen for him when we can’t keep a constant eye on him, he does well to self play and calm when he is tethered and in his pen(he also naps in his pen), our biggest issue is this biting/nipping while growling. Any suggestions are appreciated!
