  • Wildest dog names?

I really want to name my dog hand banana but I don’t want to be that guy with the dog with a name out of left field. Is it still normal enough despite being a reference to ATHF?

  • Dog ramps for car?

So, what does everybody doing for bigger dogs that don't love getting in and out of the car? I have a 65 lb mix that just has always hated getting in and out of the car so she was a puppy. She recently hurt her knee somehow, and now I'm even more nervous about her jumping in and out. I've been looking at ramps but she sits in the back seat and it doesn't look like any of them fit with the back door. Then I saw it maybe she could go in the back, like the trunk area? But I don't love the idea of her being so far back and I worry about somebody rear-ending me. This has never been an issue for me before with my past dog so I just wondering what everybody else does? She's only a year and a half but I really don't want any joint problems down the line either. Anyone have specific ramps they use or want to share how they handle it? 🤪🐾

  • Am I feeding my puppy too much?

My puppy is 13 weeks old this week and I've had him a week. When I got him I was told that he eats 4 tablespoons of puppy kibble, 4 times a day. Initially he wasn't eating it all by the evening so I reduced to 3 times a day (4 tablespoons) and he'd graze all day and still leave a bit at night. I'm also using training treats throughout the day so I didn't feel bad about reducing a feed.

Within a 24-hour period, he's doing at least 6 solid poos a day. It's starting to get me down how much poo I'm cleaning up. I reduced his evening feed to 2 tablespoons, especially because he often has some kibble left over from lunch. I'm still picking up 6 poos a day.

Am I over feeding him? Is this normal? I've not got him any training treats today and we're still on target for 6 poos today.

  • my puppy doesn’t eat his food

My 8-month old puppy doesn’t eat his kibble or wet food, and we are at our wits end trying to feed him.

He starves himself for hours and sleeps the whole day, but after his evening walk he runs up to us asking to eat our food. He doesn’t seem to be sick or anything, since he has energy and is very excited for walks.

We did think that he might be lonely, but he is never left home alone, and he always has at least 2-3 people at home to play with him and keep him company.

We’ve tried everything. Wet food from all brands for puppies, different flavors, kibbles of different brands, and nothing has worked.

He always runs to us asking for our food, so we started giving him mashed boiled carrots, or white rice with unsalted fish, which he eats some days and ignores some days all depending on his mood.

It’s extremely draining for us to run behind him and force-feed him just to get him to eat. When my friends come home he eats little kibble because they bribe playtime with him as a way to get him to eat. We have tried that too, but it just doesn’t seem to work 🙁

  • Work from home training / engagement / separation anxiety

I have a puppy coming home with me in a few weeks and I work from home, which is great for being around, but I worry that it will cause more severe separation anxiety when I’m not around in the future. Is there any training to keep the puppy engaged while I’m working and to mitigate separation anxiety in the future?

  • Any advice for at home care post surgery?

Hi! My 10 month old male schnauzer is getting neutered and umbilical hernia repair in a few days. Any tips on how I should prepare my house? I will get the aftercare instructions from vet but looking for any advice on restricted activities, his bed area, how can I make him comfortable as possible, etc.

  • New puppy parent…help!

We just got our sweet boy on Nov. 22nd. He is 3 months old today and is a Havanese puppy. My husband has never had a dog and I grew up around dogs that were already housebroken. All that to say, we have no idea what we’re doing.

My husband and I have full time jobs but we’re putting him in doggy daycare until he’s housebroken and confident enough to be left home alone for extended periods of time.

We have been working on pottying outside. We got him to pee on a pad on our balcony (we live in a third floor apartment) and we are getting a turf pad for the colder months. He will pee outside but he won’t poop until immediately after we come inside. We’ve used the enzyme spray to clean it up and followed it up with the “No More Marking” spray. I even tried the method where we take him out for 5 minutes and then come back inside for 2 minutes before going out and trying again.

We purchased some of that “Go Here” stuff and sprayed it on the pad and on a tree root outside our apartment door, but he keeps holding it until we get inside and pees or poops in the entryway. I fully acknowledge it has only been 3 days, but I need some encouragement and some tips.

We do have a clicker and treats for him. We reward him with 15 minutes of playtime and treats when he does go outside. We’ve been taking him outside every 30-45 minutes, after he naps, and after he’s eaten or had water. He does have a crate, and between potty sessions he is in there so he can learn to hold his bladder. We close the door when he has an accident so we can clean it up without him eating his poop, but we open it back up right when the cleaner has dried up (unless he’s fallen asleep then we let him nap). We plan to transition him from crate to a regular bed when he stops having accidents and is a little older.

I know it takes time, but I really hope we’re doing it right. Any advice is welcome!!!!
