  • how often do you train your puppy?

Before anyone says, I do agree it’s about the quality of the training session not how long.. but I was curious what other people do? I try to get in 3-5 short sessions a day it just depends. For context I have a 16 weeks old puppy.

Sometimes I feel like I could be doing more? It’s just feels like there is SO much to teach her so I know to important to prioritize and spread it out where it makes sense for the both of us. But then you have different stages of learning too like acquisition then generalization 😭🤧

  • When will he learn to chill?

My beagle boy is about to turn one. I thought that by now we’d spend our evenings sat on the sofa, him asleep by my side whilst I watch TV. How wrong was I!

It seems that whenever we try to settle in front of the TV, he’ll sit and let me scratch him for 10 minutes or so, but will then start rolling around over me and start mouthing. He’s clearly tired as I’ll put him over the baby gate separating the lounge and the kitchen, and he’ll go straight to his bed. More often than not we end up spending our evenings in separate rooms!

When did your pup learn that sofa and TV equals chill? Is it just a matter of more time? I’d just love him to settle and sleep next to me rather than having to separate ourselves so we can both have a relaxing evening.

  • Puppy exercise, should they just do what they want?

I have a 5 month old English Cocker Spaniel named Quimby and when let outside he runs. He simply runs and runs. If I walk around he'll walk with me but when he gets the zoomies he just flies all over the place. Today I went for a ride on the ATV and he ran along side for a few miles. Made me really wonder if the joint issues are for larger breeds. What's too much? I don't want him to grow up a fat slob from not ever letting him exercise. I do give him a nice treat after we've been out playing. Today, have a home on the Texas coast, I walked him down the pier and threw him off the end. Wanted him to learn to find the bank incase he fell in. He did great and not only that he hopped up, jumped back on the pier, then took off and jumped back in and did it again. So now he loves the water. Thinking swimming should be a great thing for him right? Or is it more a tendon or overstress thing?

  • Help, puppy won’t stop peeing at everything!

Our puppy is a 4 month old springer spaniel. He's ok, we're still in the getting to know each other phase. Most days he drives me bonkers, but I know he'll get there. The one thing I can't get over though is that he pees for absolutely every single minor interaction ever. You say hi? He pees. You throw his ball? Pees. Try and pet him? Pees? Give him a treat? Pees. Tell him no? Pees. Look in his direction? Pees. It drives me absolutely up the wall. I feel like I've tried everything, I have tried ignoring it, I have tried a firm "No.", I have tried just popping him in his crate (to give him just some space to calm down), I feel like I've literally tried it all, and I'm spending an absolute fortune on running my washing machine to wash all the things he's peed on. Not to mention the amount I'm spending in cleaning products.

I'm struggling a little to bond with him, and I think if we had this under control I'd likely bond with him better. It's so hard when I can't even interact with my puppy otherwise he's going to urinate absolutely everywhere. I know excited pees are a thing, but it feels like he pees over everything even when nothing exciting is going on 😭

  • My neutered dog humps the sofa

I have a 6 year old neutered boy and he is just a dream. However, sometimes he will hump the sofa!

It always seems to be triggered by me leaving the living room (to go to the toilet etc). Tonight I had an ubereats arrive, and once I'd collected the food from the front door I found him humping the sofa.

It doesn't really bother me, he stops immediately when I tell him to and if left to his devices he does it no more than 30 seconds. More than anything I'd like to better understand this behavior. Does anyone know why he is doing this?

  • Where does your dog(s) sleep?

I have had dogs my whole life and let them sleep wherever they want, so that was usually my bed. Now that I have a spouse they prefer our dog not in our bed and sleep downstairs. Im thinking a compromise is the dog in our bedroom but their own bed. So i was curious how all your dogs sleep

  • At my wits end

My puppy is about 8 months old and he’s pretty destructive. Like he rips his toys to shreds in an instance. I can’t give him like things to chew on bc he resource guards them pretty bad. Like he’s always looking for something to chew on like a sock, toilet paper, anything. I take him on walks on this trail. But idk what to do anymore I’m tired and frustrated. I’m constantly trading with him to get the socks and everything away. Like what’s something I can do inside that keeps him preoccupied when it rains and shit. I just need some advice or encouragement idek.
