So my puppy, or should I say teenage dog, will be 1 on New Years eve and he has suddenly become an absolute menace. He used to like sleeping on his bed whilst I worked in my office but now he seems to constantly need attention or something to do. We have another dog, who is nearly 8 and so they play together but the older dog is getting frustrated from time to time as he doesn't always want to play, whereas the pup is constantly wanting to play and doesn't want to let up. We have tried giving him bones to chew on and he loves those but as soon as he is done he's back to being a menace. He also wont just nap unless he is shut in my office with me and even then, we go through about 15 minutes of crying at the door before he finally relents. He does have a crate but he doesn't like being in there much and 99% of the time will cry/howl until he is let out. Any tips on what to do to try and help him sleep more or any toys/chews etc that will keep him entertained. PS: he has recently been castrated, which is just a preference, as we have always had this done with our dogs.

Hi everyone! My husband and I are bringing home a Golden Shepherd puppy at the end of February, and his name will be Rye.

We rescued our current dog, Ginger, about 3 years ago. She came to us as an adult and is fully crate trained, so this will be a very different experience… and we’re bracing ourselves for the adorable chaos. 😂

I grew up with puppies in my childhood home, but this is my first time raising one on my own as an adult, so I’m taking a full week off work once we pick him up to establish routines and get everything started the right way.

Since this is my first puppy as an adult, I would LOVE to hear your best advice. Some questions I have: Crate training: Any do’s and don’ts for setting up a solid foundation? First night tips — what should we expect, and how do we make it as smooth as possible? Potty training schedule: What does a realistic timeline look like? Feeding routines: How strict were you with timing when they were tiny? Introducing Rye to Ginger: Any tips for introducing a puppy to a resident adult dog who is sweet but used to being the only one? Chewing / biting: What worked best for redirection? Socialization: What are the must-do experiences during the early window? Sleeping arrangements: When did your pup start sleeping through the night? Alone time training: How early did you start working on this? General supplies: Anything you bought that you wish you hadn’t… or something you wish you had?

We are SO excited and want to set Rye up for success from the very beginning. Any advice, checklists, or “I wish I knew this sooner” stories are super appreciated!

Sorry for the depressing post. But I would really like some insight on how one can prepare for the day you have to let your dog go. And for people to share their experience with me.

I am the proud guardian of a 9 year old wolfdog. I have him since he was a puppy and for the first few years it was just him and me.
I battled a lot with mental health problems at the time which I was able to overcome thanks to him.
So, long story short, we have a pretty amazing bond and he means everything to me.

I have been dreading the day that I will have to say goodbye to him. Right now he is still healthy and very fit for his age, so I really shouldn't worry right now. But I am really scared of the impact his passing will have on my mental health when that day comes.

So, any recommendations, personal experiences, or idea's about how to prepare for this day, will be greatly appreciated.

I have a puppy who hasn’t yet gone into heat, but I want to be prepared for when she does. I am still teaching her to be alone (don’t know if she has separation anxiety or if it’s my own anxiety about distressing her but it’s a thing we’re working on, she’s up to 20 mins but my therapist is trying to encourage me to leave her for an hour… but of course she’s not a dog trainer…), so she usually comes with me if I go out somewhere — to bars, dinners, friends houses — or stays with other friends who have dogs. I’ve read she can’t be around other dogs while in heat — that along with the pregnancy risk from unneutered male dogs there’s a risk of aggression or behavioral issues with female dogs or neutered male dogs. Is it also an issue to bring her to bars or dinners that tend to be human dominated if I plan to leave if another dog does come along? Do people just not socialize for the month their puppy is in heat? Or do you leave your puppy at home alone? I worry since she’s still learning increasing the amount of time she’s at home alone at a sensitive time might create extra stress for her.

Hi there, we are currently on a road trip from North Carolina to Florida and we stopped at a hotel overnight.. my 5 month old cavalier puppy just won’t go potty. He hasn’t been since yesterday since 7pm when we left… it’s 8am right now. He usually goes right away in the morning multiple times. He will go potty all over the house and my bed but now when he has a lot of grass available he won’t go.. everything is more interesting then his own needs. Yes he is acting absolutely normal, he even drank and ate some. No vomiting or different behavior except he is stubborn. I don’t know what to do. We have 8hr drive ahead of us and he is being silly. I’m frustrated

My 10 month old will pee in our garden absolutely no problem. We do still have accidents in the house but it's not often. The issue is she won't go pee on walks at all. Just took her for a walk straight after waking up and she was holding the pee for 6-7 hours and she still won't potty on the walk at all. It's like she gets too distracted?

She will poop if it's been a very long walk and it's more like she can't hold it kind of a thing. But still can not get her to pee. We've always done the big excitement, reward training for going outside but never once the whole time we've had her been able to get her to go on a walk or like at a reststop on a car trip.

We've got an 8 hour road trip coming up at the end of December and really need to tackle this 😂

Hi everyone, I need some insight or help with a problematic behavior. I have a 3y female lhasa apso, overall she's a very well behaved dog, she tends to bark a lot sometimes but she's a lhasa so not much to do there. The problem is, she really love to play with balls, but not in a healthy way, she keeps pushing the ball under furniture where she cannot reach and then starts crying, screaming, licking her paws and diging the floor like crazy. If I take the ball and return it to her is like I'm giving her a drug or something. I avoid giving her balls but she seems sad without it, she doesn't play with the other toys, she is not a dog that likes to play in the yard, so she just lays by the window. Today I took away the last ball and she keeps searching for it desperately, following me and my husband crying, but we don't feel like giving it back is a good thing, when she's without the ball for a while she is calm, doesn't lick her paws etc, but seems very bored and with the ball she gets crazy… I'd love to hear some advice, thank you.

I will call my dogs name and they ignore me. Like the most they will do is make eye contact and continue do what they’re doing. We recently got a new puppy and I call his name and most of the time he doesn’t come I’m starting to 2nd guess if he knows his name.
