  • Dog Halloween Costume

I’m sorry if this isn’t the correct group, but idk where else to find advice

I got this pumpkin halloween costume for my dog at Marshall’s or TjMaxx (the same thing) anyway, how do you guys go about wearing a harness with these costume. It is a slip over, it doesn’t velcro or anything. I am worried about trying to stick a hole in it because i don’t want to ruin it, but my girl has had previous issues with collars and if i am taking her to a place where other dogs will be i want her to be in a harness just in case.

I just got a small step in harness from Walmart.

  • Teething, why aren’t they falling out?

My puppy turned into a shark pretty much as soon as she came home at 8 weeks. She’s now 16 weeks old and I’m dying for her teeth to start falling out and pass through this phase. She has 7 teething toys including nylabones and various rubber chewers. She also has plastic water bottles she cycles through and they are removed and replaced when they begin to get damaged. Puopy dental sticks and rings were introduced this week, but she goes through them in 15 minutes. Is it okay to give her stronger ones?

TLDR: – 16 weeks old GSD mix – Teeth are NOT coming out, intense chewer and bites a lot – Can I give her bully sticks not for puppies?

  • Best training to stop jumping

I have a 3 month old puppy and a 4 year old child. The puppy has always loved running around with the 4 year old in our backyard, but has recently started jumping/biting on him. Any tips on the best way to train in this situation? The 4 year old isn’t good at listening, so he doesn’t stop running or playing around when she starts jumping and I’m not always close enough to intervene. I was thinking of just keeping her on a leash when he’s running around to just have her watch and give her treats when she’s calm. But I wasn’t sure if there were any other suggestions.

  • Christmas gift ideas for my Husky’s first Christmas with us

Looking for ideas for my newly adopted 9 month old husky. Maybe this is silly but I kind of feel like I should do something special for this first Christmas with us. Looking for recommendations for Toys, accessories of any kind, treats & even dog related products. Stuff he could use that may not be a toy. I can't think of something either special or an item that I wouldn't normally shell out for. I'm willing to try spending a little more then I normally would. What do you get for your dogs? I'm just blanking on this.

  • Labrador puppy deshedding

We have a 5 month old Labrador who is shedding like crazy, I’ve tried to look for a deshedding brush that is suitable for puppies but I’m finding really mixed info about what to use. Does anyone have a brush that they recommend? Thanks

  • Anyone have any eventual success with puppy resource guarding?

I have 6 month old Maltese that is very aggressively resource guarding chews (not his food bowl or toys they are fine). So have stopped giving them to him for now. But on walks or at other peoples houses I am constantly scared about him finding something and then biting someone else.

  • Puppy is only potty trained for #2! Argh!

We have a 6 1/2 month old mixed breed puppy who we've had since she was 2-3 months old. She rarely EVER had accidents in the house, but we were diligent about taking her outside every half hour, then every hour. She was in a large "playpen" area (about 15 square feet) for enforced naps and never once had an accident there, or in the crate where she spends her nights. During the day, she would either be running around in the room that me or my husband were in or long-leashed to the living room coffee table at night when we were watching TV.

Since she's now almost 7 months, we decided to expand her territory. We gave her access to the hallway and one bedroom, plus she was allowed to be in the kitchen if we were in the living room (basically a big L).

She ALWAYS goes to the door and whimpers to go out when she has to defecate. ALWAYS. But she's very inconsistent with urination. Although she STILL goes outside at least once an hour, she will still go into the kitchen and urinate on the floor several times a week. We don't scold her, just clean it up and try to take her out more frequently.

How can we break this bad habit? I am SO tired of tripping over baby gates everywhere and I'm really motivated for her to be trained so she can roam free!

I'm paranoid because our last dog was NEVER potty trained. She'd been abused by multiple owners before we adopted her and she remained high strung and skittish her whole life (another 10-12 years). We worked with a trainer but we were never able to train her to do anything. She was just too anxious. DItto with the potty training…so we just committed to taking her outside every 2 hours…for years. She just never caught on and I don't want that to happen again!

  • How to limit my puppy’s playtime with the cat

So we have a 5 month old puppy, Misa, and my cat is 3 years old. They love to play together! Which is great bc it’s been helping the cat lose some weight lol. But what I’ve found recently is that Misa just doesn’t know when enough is enough. The cat enjoys playing with her most of the time, and if he’s had enough, obviously he can jump onto the couch or his tree, which she can’t reach. But I want him to be able to relax at times and not always be playing with her/running from her. He’s lived with dogs before, so he’s never hurt her and I can usually go get ready in the other room while they play and not worry about them, and at times he initiates the wild play sessions with her. But she does get too much for him sometimes, like tackling him, just keeps trying to play when clearly they need to take a break- all that puppy energy! Unfortunately, we do have a smaller apartment rn so it is hard to keep them separate, and I need some help looking for alternate solutions. At times, I just grab a toy and put the attention on me and play with her, but as soon as I stop or have to do something, she goes right back to him. I’ve never owned a puppy before (bf has), so please don’t be mean, I’m just looking for advice or command I can teach her to get her to back off, as I don’t want this to continue into worse behavior over time, as she is getting to be the same size/bigger than him now. Thanks for any help!
