Hi all! I adopted an American pit bull terrier mix this week, and he’s my whole world, I love him so much! I am a teacher, and tomorrow we go back to work after having a week off. I am extremely anxious for him, as when he is left home alone he gets super anxious and cries a lot. He doesn’t get anxious in his crate. He likes to take his toys in there and play with them, and even eat his food. The area in my apartment I’m having him in is a closet with the crate opening facing the inside so he has lots of room. I got him some licking mats, chew bones, a stuffed dog with a heartbeat, and a variety of toys so he doesn’t get bored, and I will have the TV on for him during the day. My grandmother also said she will check up on him during the day for me. Is there anything else anyone thinks I will need? I am also getting a ring camera to check on him. I know it isn’t ideal to leave a puppy home alone this fast, but I can’t just give up work, I am already taking a day and a half off next week for his neuter surgery. Any tips or advice is welcome 🙂

For thanksgiving break we had someone over with their dog. I have a 3 month old puppy and an 8 year old senior. I feed my dogs separately, puppy in the crate and older dog in the kitchen away from puppy(he barks if he sees the older dog eating and it’s stresses the older dog, so this is my solution).

I am familiar with my friends dog, she is almost 2. She has had this habit since my friend got her. If there are other dogs around she only eats if she can steal from them. She doesn’t want treats or toys unless it’s something to be stolen from another dog. I have told my friend to please keep her dog separate or teach a cue to leave it when other dogs are trying to eat because there was one time my brother’s dog almost bit her pretty badly if it had not been for his kennel. I think they have been working on this but it seems like they think it’s the other dogs’ job to teach her not to steal? They didn’t seem to care about the incident with my brother’s dog. She still does it though, regardless if another dog corrects her. Its pretty annoying because I am afraid it will end badly one day, and I don’t like my senior being harassed, but it’s not my dog and my friend does not like advice. But, I want to understand this behavior and for the life of me cannot find anything about something like this, can someone please help or explain to me what this behavior is? Is this resource guarding in a way?

my 7 month old dachshund won’t stop biting my couch even if i tell her no; i’m not sure what to do other than distraction, but even with distraction, she’ll get bored and eventually return to the couch. any tips?

I have 2 GDS who are poop eaters! We have been to the vet many times over this and there is no deficiency. We pick up poop twice a day and yet they still seem to get to it! We’ve tried a few things but nothing has worked. Any recommendations?! I cannot stand it anymore!

My dog is a little baby havanese, she's adorable btw. She's three pounds and can't hold her bladder for more than an hour. I'm trying to teach her not to pee in the crate, but it's hard when she'll wake up in the middle of the night and pee, then go back to sleep before I can do anything.

When she's awake, out of the crate, she does better to not pee on the floor or in the house. But it's hard to crate train her, since I can't watch her in the crate and sleep at the same time. What do I do? I can't let her out of the crate because (even though I puppy-proofed my house) im worried there will be just one small thing that's harmful. Help!!

If your dog takes it on December 1 do you give it on December 30, 31, or January 1 for the next dose?

Hi everyone! My 3-month old chihuahua sleeps just fine in his crate, which we keep inside a pen in our bedroom, with the crate door open. The crate is super cozy and he goes in there by himself when we sleep. The problem is I am really struggling to teach him how to be alone. Even if I go to the loo for 5 mins while he is sleeping (or awake) in the pen, he cries a lot. We've been going to do our thing regardless of his crying but it doesn't seem to get better at all. Tonight we tried to leave him alone with a frozen kong, but as soon as he realised that he is alone started to ugly cry and pretty much ignore the kong. If we leave him in the living room alone for a few minutes during the day he still cries sometimes, but seems to be better overall with less crying and sometimes none at all. But our living room is too big and there are too many things he can destroy so we cannot leave him there for more than 5 mina without worrying that he'll do something stupid. I don't know how to proceed with time alone, his breed is prone to separation anxiety and I really want him to be able to be alone from time to time for a few hours eventually, but atm he can't even do minutes.

Im new to researching on a puppy and I just wanna ask what happens if I'm not home and the puppy physically can't hold in the pee or poop yet do I have to stick to indoor pee pads for now or? Sorry
