  • Puppy suddenly terrified? Normal fear period, or something else?

My 4.5 month old great pyrenees mix puppy got suddenly terrified tonight, and I have zero idea why. She was fine all day, got two longs walks, training, played a bunch, and was lazing around and fell asleep in the bedroom by herself. When she woke up, she was really freaked out. Ears back, whale eyes, etc. We are remote and there were no environmental triggers I can think of, she was literally by herself and the house was very quiet.

It progressively got worse, to where she hid in her kennel, then tried to dash out of the house when my husband came back inside with her tail tucked and run off who knows where. He caught her, luckily (she's normally great about not running out when the door is open), but after that she was trembling and looking at us like she had no idea who we were. He took her out in case she needed to poo (she likes to dash around before she does sometimes) but she just beelined away from the house into the wilderness, and didn't want to come back.

We got her settled back in her crate and eventually both sat with her, and she calmed down to where she wasn't actively trembling and was laying on us for comfort, but it took another like two hours until she finally calmed enough to relax and sleep, but she still wouldn't take any treats or come out of the kennel.

Is this a normal fear period thing? Our other dog has literally never been scared of anything in his life (he tries to fight thunder) so this is entirely new to me. She has gotten freaked out by things before, but this was on another level. Should we take her to a vet? It's just so weird, there was literally nothing happening. Can dogs have nightmares and wake up terrified?

  • dog keeps holding his bladder

i’m not sure if this is the correct flair to use, but i’m kind of at a loss right now and want to know if anyone has advice, or if this has happened to anyone else

i am gone from my house for about 9-10 hours for work, so i leave my dog out of his crate. he doesn’t destroy anything, he is very well behaved, but he does not potty on his puppy pads, and i have no idea why. no matter how badly he has to go, he just won’t. he will poop on them, but he won’t pee on them.

when i come home he barely makes it to the door before he releases all he’s been holding all day right on the kitchen floor. i’ve tried changing the puppy pad brand to see if maybe a different texture or something would do it (and even got ones with attractants) and i am just at a loss right now bc nothing seems to be working.

    thank you in advance

  • Cocker spaniel puppy 7 months and forgotten recall

My little boy is 27 weeks and since he was a pup was super well trained we put lots of work in and he was such a good boy. Anywho, in the last month it's like everything I taught him is gone, he now ignores me, when going for walks he pulls and doesn't engage with me when I say his name, dog parks he now just runs into the water or chases birds and doesn't come when called so now we have him on a long lead and also we taught him not to rush out the door without a release command but apparently he's forgotten that too. I'm concerned mainly for his safety particularly with his recall and rushing out the door.

Would really appreciate if anyone else has experienced this and what they did? When he was a puppy the recall command was probably his strongest, and now's he's just disinterested in me (even when I have high value treats) and just does his own thing running over to other dogs, birds, water and only listening when he chooses to.

I know that this is an adolescence phase thing but I want to know what I can do to nip this in the bud and get him back on track? For reference, his recall we practiced at home and he got straight away and then he just did it outside home too. Now he still listens inside the house, but outside is another story so I don't really know where to start with that training as we never had to "train recall" as such when he was a babe.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Excessive barking and inhaling food

So my puppy, Puppy barks at everything on walks, literally everything and everyone. I Don't know how to get him to stop. I know I'm suppose to ignore it and the reward him when he stops, but he seriously loses his mind to the point where I am just picking him up and comforting him, which now I feel like he is doing it now for that attention.

Also, anytime I feed him he inhales his food. I have tried the slow eater bowls and he will literally pick it up and turn it over, and when I scoled him he isn't listening because well he is inhaling the food now on the ground. 😩

Any advice will be appreciated, and any suggestions without having to put alpt of cost into would be great also, seeing as I am currently homeless.

    Thank you in advance ☺️

  • Barking and whining in crate at night

We have a mini goldendoodle, just past 4 months old (18 weeks). He used to do really well in his crate at night. Would reasonably whine for a minute or 2 (I miss you), and then curl up for bed. Now he just sits and whines (sometimes little puppy yelps) for up to an hour! Like, what gives dog?! He goes out before bed, gets his water before bed, gets some cuddles before bed. All his needs should be met! Ignoring doesn't seem like the way to go, telling him "No" seems useless. Is this just a phase we gotta ride out? Any suggestions?!
