  • That Feeling When Your Pup Understands Potty

I’ll preface this with the fact I know there can be a teenage regression.

BUTTTTT. For those with a young pup, there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Our almost 15 week golden has gone over 2 weeks without an accident. She now will walk to the door and bark when she needs to go potty. No longer having to watch her like a hawk to see her potty cues.

It’s a huge milestone mentally, and those still struggling just know your pup will figure it out!

  • Puppy will only eat after preforming a trick?

Hi everyone! I have a 4-month-old Dalmatian puppy who has been awesome so far. She is very smart and food motivated.

Out of nowhere, she’s started refusing to eat her kibble from her bowl. Up until recently, she would eat breakfast from her bowl in her crate while we were at work, and dinner from a pumpkin treat dispenser to help burn off some energy.

We also have cats and a senior German Shepherd. My German won’t eat her kibble unless it has human food on top (not really worried about that), and there has been a of couple times where my Dal snuck over and ate leftovers from her bowl or grabbed some cat food when I wasn’t looking. I corrected her and took the food away, and that seemed to work for a bit.

Now she won’t eat her own food from her bowl. I’m wondering if she got a taste of the “good stuff” and is holding out for toppers, which I really don’t want to encourage. I’ve been picking up everyone’s food and feeding her separately, and trying the “tough love” approach of only having the food down for 10 minutes then taking it up. It worked at first, but then she’d only eat if I toss the kibble on the floor and she ate like a chicken. She has no interest in the treat dispenser either anymore when that was her favorite way to eat.

In a last ditch effort, I made her do a trick and took her food out of her bowl and hand fed her as a "reward". She loves this, and will eat her entire meal this way until she gets bored of doing tricks and goes off to play. This is how I have been feeding her the last two days, but I do not want to make this a habit and would like for her to eat out of her bowl again.

    Any suggestions?

  • Beagle 7months Puppy kibble struggle

I have an 8-month-old beagle who is refusing to eat kibble. Despite trying four different brands, he continues to reject all of them. I made the mistake of giving him home-cooked food after listening to various people, and now he is underweight. The vet has advised that we should only give him kibble, but it has been a struggle for the past three weeks. Some days he eats a little, while other days he eats nothing at all. Recently, he even stole a pack of vegemite rolls from the kitchen shelf and ate them all. Now, we are back to square one, and he is completely refusing to eat kibble. What should I do?

  • 4 week old puppy given to us

As the post says, a 4 week old puppy given was ripped from its mother and dumped on us out of the blue. We’ve been doing some research but thought I’d ask here as well. How often should we feed, how much should they be pooping/peeing, is this going to hurt the mental development of the pup? We’re keeping her warm with a blanket and she enjoys sleeping in our hoodie pockets, but, is it fine to just make a “grul” with puppy kibble and store bought puppy milk powder? How often to feed her and how much? So many questions.

  • Is 9 hours in the crate too long for a 6 month old puppy overnight?

I have been taking my puppy out for her last potty around 10pm and then waking up at 7am to let her out.

She’s NEVER had an accident in her crate so I’m worried she may hold it longer than she should and get a UTI or something. She’s completely potty trained and I take her out every 2-4 hours when awake. I just want to make sure I’m got unintentionally damaging her urinary system by making her wait 9 hours overnight.

Anyone have experience with this? I’d love some advice. Thank you.

  • Carry Harness for small dog (10-15lbs)

I have a little ankle biter and want to get a harness that I can use to pick her up and carry her 1 handed to put her in the car, up on a high chair etc. The tactical harness I have just doesn't seem to be sturdy enough as it feels like she's just hanging by her front shoulders when I pick her up. Are there any better harnesses that actually support the full body when being picked up? Google is just filling me with a crap ton of amazon harnesses or mobility harnesses for bigger dogs.

  • Three questions i just got about my dog’s breed’s behaviours

So, my 8 month chiweenie (Mix between chihuahua and Dachshund) has done pretty weird and sometimes funny things and idk how to correct them

    1. He gets onto the table when we leave him alone, this is kinda scary and worries me because i always get the question, What if he eats something he shouldn't?, He has ate onions before and i mean a bunch but, it still scares me

    2. At some point of the day (usually at night) he will start running through the house (my house is a small one so he runs from my room to the other room over and over, taking some stops to drink water), i wonder if this is because he's stressed or something (tho i take him out)

    3. His heartbeat rate increased when we went on a car trip, he was also panting, was he overwhelmed because of the small space? (Note: It was his first time on a trip)

  • Senior dog help

    Hey yall!

I have a Senior rescue dog that has a lot of problems & I don’t really know what to do. I didn’t get him until he was 10 y/o. I also work full time.

    PSYCH

    attention tied to behavior:

If i work I can expect mylo peed on the floor, tears in his eyes, & howling.

If i am completely a task like school on laptop he does the cat behaviors hell rub his body on my laptop.

    – He also will pace the house. Pee small amount (i think it’s attention seeking because it can be 10 mins after outside time.)

    – He also has no problem peeing in his kennel, beds, indoors etc.

    – Hates other dogs unless they are old & don’t acknowledge him.

    – Eats when bored: no human present

    – Eats with positive reinforcement (goodboy) otherwise he kinda eats like a cat one bite per hour.

    – only likes interactive play with humans

    – Coping skills help: classical music, puzzles for food, & heartbeat toy

    – Pacing the house

    – Adjustments to new environments increases problem behaviors: pacing, peeing

    PHYSICAL

    – needs sticky paws to not lose balence

    – Partially blind

    – peeing after being inside for 10 mins

    – Probably has joint pain: cries to be let on couch & scared to jump off.

  • I love my dogs stinky ears

I know it sounds gross but it’s not overly stinky just has a nice comforting yeasty smell that smells like “home” to me. I’ve heard they create pheromones in their ears too! Please anyone the same so I don’t feel like a weirdo
