  • Anyone’s puppy fussy after vaccines?

Our puppy just got his 12 week vaccines and had a horrible night afterwards. Crying/barking nonstop, hyper, and didn’t want to settle for hours. It makes sense he could be uncomfortable after his shots but has this happened to anyone else? He seems much more willing to settle this morning and is acting normally. Hoping it’s not the start of a sleep regression 🙁

  • Dog barking at tree at night – please help

Hi so I have a 5 year old female staffyXred nosed pitty. This has been a problem.in previous houses, there is a large tree (atleast 30 metres high) in my nextdoor neighbours yard that is up against our shared fence (high privacy fence) During the day we have no issues but at night she sees what I believe to be a possum (i live in Australia we only get possums) or a bat and she goes mental barking at it. She's gotten to the point of tricking me doing the things she does to say "I need toilet" so she can go out there and bark at the possums.

Now my original thought is speak to the neighbours and ask them if they would be okay with me getting a pest controller to safely remove them. The only issue is, that doesn't stop another one from moving back into the tree.

Is there any other solutions im not thinking of?

  • Dogs barking at neighbours dogs

Hey all, looking for some advice about my dogs barking at our neighbours dogs. The dogs next door are quite yappy (they are outside dogs and we cannot walk or drive up our drive way without them barking). As they are always outside, when I let my three dogs out to toilet or play, they are always barked at, to which they respond and start barking back. They have now learnt that those dogs are always out there and often run straight to the fence upon being let out. We have high fences so they can't see eachother, and we are constantly bringing them back in with treats to no avail. On top of this, the neighbours teen son often swears at our dog for barking, making the situation more uncomfortable. Would be very grateful for any advice!

    Sorry, this post has been

  • New yard no soil on stone!

    Hello everyone,

I just moved in a new house with my dog (30kgs female shepherd). In our previous home there was plenty of yard, with soil she could dig and play and even use as a toilet. Now in the new house the yard is small and the problem is that its everywhere stones. No soil.

My main issue is what can i do so she use a specific spot as a toilet? Maybe a small place filled with sand or smth? Any ideas?

  • Running into an ex… dog.

In cases of rehoming, how long would a dog recognize a previous owner after living with a new family? Or another example: if a couple splits up and one person moves out, would the dog recognize them if they saw them years later?

I just imagine a dog seeing someone who used to be a big part of their life and being sad, and then it makes me sad.

*Not rehoming my dog. He’s stuck with me.

  • “Females don’t get along” – any science behind this?

I ask because in the country where I live, EVERYONE says this. Like when another dog owner sees my dog on a leash, they ask “girl or boy?” And when I tell them girl, they say “oh ok, mine too, better not let them get too close”.

Where I grew up (different country) I honestly never heard this. We have lived in both countries with the same female dog (now age 10).

Now we’re adopting another female dog (puppy, 3ish months old, will be spayed ASAP) and the adoption agency is suggesting a male might be better and more compatible. My dog (spayed female) cannot stand male dogs, especially male puppies 😂. All of her besties have always been females.

Any insight into this? Checked on Google Scholar but I don’t really see anything… even though the internet is full of blogs that confirm it’s true.

  • Collarless

Not sure how it started with this pup. I've had 5-6 dogs in my life and didn't think about doing this before. When not walking the dog on a leash, I've been leaving the collar of off her. Seems to me that she genuinely appreciates not having it around her neck. She's not the type that takes off an runs if she gets out, so I'm not that concerned about her getting loose and not having her collar, license, ID on. In addition, only if we forget does she go outside in the fenced yard without the collar. She's never gotten out of the yard but we don't want to take the chance. Just wondering if I'm late to the game and other people take the collar off their dogs? I read about so many dogs being found without collars, I'm wondering if other owners don't have one or their dogs or if they are doing the came with only putting on the collars when they walk the dog.

EDIT: I keep forgetting. I think I might know why. Most of our dogs we didn't board. THe last two dogs we've boarded and they required the quick release collars which makes it sooo much easier to take the collar off.

  • What kind of weight gain is normal as they age?

My dog is 5 and from being about age 1-3.5 she’s been 10lbs (she’s hadn’t been weighed since about then). Recently I weighed her and she’s gained 2lbs. She isn’t acting any different and she doesn’t look chubby or anything so I’m wondering if a bit of weight gain is normal as they get a bit older?

  • How to properly introduce dogs?

So my spouse and I may become a temporary home for a dog (1 year old male hound) as we’ve learned his current living situation isn’t the best. We volunteered to take him in until his original owner could either get the funds needed to properly care for him or until we send him to his new forever home. We have our own dog (5 year old female beagle mix) and neither of us have ever been a 2 dog household. Looking for tips on how to help both of them settle in and get along should we take him on.
