  • Noise complaints with 10 week puppy

Our 10 week old puppy has recently been barking loud enough in her crate for our neighbors to hear it. We came home one day of taking her out to my brothers to a note on our door complaining of the noise. We are trying everything to keep her quiet, but now we are scared of getting noise complaints and possibly evicted. She gets super stressed out in her crate and wont stop barking until we either let her out or it's been a couple hours. She doesnt respond to treats, kongs, lick matts, or anything to keep her busy and slow down. We have researched everything to quiet the barking but nothing is working. I tried reaching out to the neighbors, but they dont seem to have any sympathy and are just sick of it. What is there to do? I'm genuinely scared of being evicted.

EDIT: We don't leave her in the crate for hours, the sleep deprivation is hitting. If she is yawning and showing signs of slowing herself down, we usually keep her in the crate but if she's panting really bad and just awake then we'll come rescue her.

  • How can I tire out my puppy without having to do long walks?

Hello! For context, I recently adopted a 3-4 month old mut puppy and I unfortunately can’t take her on long walks outside my house, at least not for now. When I adopted her I found out she has both a bacteria and parasite that she had gotten at the shelter she was at, and the vet told us to be vigilant and not let her eat things that would upset her stomach even more. Fast forward to almost a month now, my puppy is better but she stresses me out when she starts bark demanding… I’ve gotten her different toys, puzzle treat toys, play with her and try to make her round as much as she can inside our house. I’m scared to take her out because it seems she also has some skin allergies as of recently (maybe switching her kibble or something else). I live in an area where there’s a lot of grass, and I don’t want her catching some flees or something else. And until I can figure out what’s wrong with her skin being itchy, I want to know what other things she can do to not stress me, and for her to have enough physical activit. I do enforce crate naps from time to time when my patience is gone… sorry for the long post everyone, and I hope I made sense. I also want her to stop chewing on my couch and I cant figure out how to make her STOP

  • 9mo rescue is a Velcro dog

Just rescued a 9mo German shepherd / golden retriever mix (allegedly) and they are great but she is a big time Velcro dog. Wants to be next to me 24/7 I can’t even close the dog to shower etc. Have cameras and she whines in the crate for a few minutes whenever I leave the room or go to work before settling down.

Any tips on making them more independent? I try not to give too much attention and go about my day as if they were not there but they just stick right with me no matter what. I very much enjoy receiving her love but makes me sad when I have to leave and she starts whining and hitting the crate. Don’t think she has much problem with the crate it’s just that initial period of being alone

  • Rescue puppy won’t eat

Just rescued a 9mo puppy and she doesn’t really eat. If I leave food in her crate when I go to work it is gone when I get back but she rarely eats from her bowl or from my hand. Doesn’t seem to show much interest in treats, peanut butter, yogurt, etc. I don’t want to leave all her food for the day in her crate for her to eat in one sitting but I also don’t want her to not get enough calories. Right now I am just putting some of her extra/saved up/not eaten yet food in kongs/towls/enrichment and leaving in her crate while I go to work but that isn’t sustainable nor is it as much as she should be eating.

She is definitely still getting used to my home and routine so hopefully she figures out to eat on her own but any helpful tips are appreciated

  • Crate advice for growing girl

My rescue german shepherd / golden retriever is already outgrowing her crate (she is too tall – 27” 40lbs at 9 months) and I am looking to upgrade. Really not a fan of the wire ones and thinking about a gunner/impact/rock creek/ruffland kennel. Definitely pricey but the extra cost is something I can justify right now if needed.

Leaning towards the rock creek xl collapsible but any input is appreciated whether the RC, others I mentioned, or additional options.

    Thanks!

  • Advice needed about leaving puppy

Hello everyone, first post on this /r.

My wife and I got a standard Schnauzer on December 30th. Dante the Bark Knight is currently 3 months old puppy.

We have a crate, that he enjoys since day one, sitting, chilling, sleeping overnight in it, taking his naps. Whenever we leave tho, if he is not asleep beforehand, he would throw a tantrum. We've left him 3 times with a camera to record so we can revisit those times.

1st time – he was asleep in the crate, we left for 25-30 minutes, no sound, no cry, when we got back, he heard us, and he woke up

2nd time – he was settled in the crate quietly, we left, came back 30 minutes later, watched the video for 18 minutes, he would cry and bark with some short pauses, on the 19th minute mark, he would lie down whining, and then we would be back

3rd time – we gave him a frozen Kong and left, first 10 minutes he would chew on the Kong unbothered, then for 2 minutes he would do singular barks + whines with big pauses. From minute 12 to minute 16, he would pace in the crate, whine, and bark with almost no pauses. Minute 16-17 he would check the Kong again, he would start barking again, escalating but with pauses, he would then proceed to lie down for a minute and whine, and then suddenly jump and escalate again. Once he hears the front door, he would sit and be quiet.

Our issue is i work from home, wife goes to work, his crate is in the living room and we live in an apartment block. We need to be able to do groceries and go out every now and then for tasks without him making the neighbours mad. I literally cant go to the toilet without him as he starts scratching the door and crying, not so much that he is attached to me but that he is alone, if wife is in the room, he is chill. We can't leave him out of crate fully yet as he never naps and he eats everything (piranha stage).

    Thing 2:

At night, when he is crated ready for bed, (potty, water ), if we leave right away he starts throwing tantrums that are keeping the neighbours on edge, so we started staying a little longer til he falls asleep, then leave

    Any advice is welcome.

    P.S commands he knows
    Home,

    Bed,

Break (to release him from command)

    Sit,

    Here,

    Stay (work in progress)

    Edit: Some info and commas

  • Puppy really seems to not enjoy going outside the house?

How to deal with a dog that really seems like it doesn’t want to pee outside?

Basically the title, my and my fiancé have a young puppy (Siberian Husky, about 10 weeks) that has been very resistant over the last week and a half to any measure of house training.

Every time we bring her to the backyard she refuses to pee/poop unless we leave her out there for 10+ minutes (and that is when she does go, which is about 1/4 the time).

Obviously we want to supervise her because she’s so young and we’re worried about her eating things she shouldn’t, so we end up having to take turns supervising her for long periods of time to ensure she actually goes. We take her out probably once an hour if not more.

This is even more frustrating because she at times, will immediately go when we bring her inside or she will go to places out of site (behind couches or other pieces of furniture) to pee. This means we pretty much have to keep her under constant supervision in the house as well.

Truthfully, none of this would be much of an issue if it wasn’t for the fact that even though we reward her with a treat and praise every time she does go outside, she still seems to prefer going inside. I’m not sure if it’s because she doesn’t feel comfortable going in our line of sight, because it’s been somewhat cold out lately (around 40-55 Fahrenheit), or just because she seems to be a bit stubborn (she likes to try to ignore commands at times).

We try not to scold her because we read online it just makes them more pee-shy around us, sometimes I’ll make a “nu-uh” sound when I catch her going in the house but I try to sound calm when I do it. I do understand she’s young and it’s only really been a week and a half, but it’s still frustrating nonetheless. Thoughts?

Edit: She is crate trained but we generally only try to crate the dog unless we are going to bed, and even then her crate is in our room. She does have some slight separation anxiety but I’m not sure if that is really related.

  • My dog eats grass every morning and I’m worried

Every morning walk, she eats grass like it's breakfast.

Then throws it up 10 minutes later.

Vet says she's fine but this happens daily.

Is this normal or should I be concerned?

  • My 9 week old Golden Retriever …

We’ve had our almost 10 week old Golden Retriever for 13 days. She is amazing, gorgeous, sweet, funny, and perfect for my family. Her hair is so soft and silky, and she has the sweetest little pink velvet tummy. We’ve got the crate training down, and the indoor potty accidents are slowing down. The main issue right now is biting. She bites everyone and everything. I know that’s part of her development and a way of communicating, but we really need to figure out a way to curb the biting. She draws blood regularly when she bites us. It’s all just innocent puppy nipping, but we need to try to stop it. Does anyone have any tried and true suggestions for me? I would be very grateful. Thanks. 🐾
