I am a couple of months out from getting a puppy. I have a trip planned, so I'll start looking after that, but I've already started to look at what I need to get for her.

It will be a female English Show Cocker Spaniel and she will be around 8-10 weeks when we get her. They grow show much during the first 6 months or so, so what do you do for harness/collar? Do I need to buy multiple sizes during that time? are there specific types you recommend that might be more flexible?

I am also curious what your options are on whether i should go for harness or collar for her.

I have had dogs before, but they were rescues. Even though young and still in training, they were fully grown and so I don't have experience with this.

I don't know what to do. Got a patterdale-jack Russel cross just before Christmas, complete surprise from my partner. I'm at the point where I'm considering rehoming or selling her.

Some things to know, I am currently bed bound, I'm unable to feed, train or generally take care of her and it's going to be multiple months before I can walk properly again due to complications after an injury. I also have an iron temper, ask any of my friends, they have never seen me angry. I'm not trying to be tough or hard, they're just important bits to know for the rest of this.

My partner will not train our puppy the important bits. She doesn't sit, she doesn't stay, she has zero recall, she barks constantly throughout the day, she knows exactly what her name is and yet won't even acknowledge when I say her name, if it's just me and her in the room she jumps and screeches at the door for someone else, her tail was docked wrong and she needs to go to the fucking vet NOW, we've had her two months and she hasn't been to the vet except for jabs, she's not chipped, she has bitten me, she has bitten my partner, she reacts very badly to the four other dogs in the house (none of them are mine and have been her years longer than my dog), if they fight the other people in the house just shout her name, one of those dogs is a fucking German Shepherd, my little patterjack is not winning that fight ever, she hasn't been on a walk since a week after we got her and she will grab food directly out of people's hands while they are eating.

She does twirly whirlies though. And she rolls over, and she does paw and she does play dead, you know, the incredibly important commands for a three month old dog to know. She's 1000% trainable, but she can't be around me much because she will jump on and hurt me (which she has done multiple times already) so I can't train her and I don't know what to do, no one else in this fucking house will train the dog not to pick fights with a dog five times her size, or not to shit on the carpet (which they will happily complain about though), or ANYTHING ELSE IMPORTANT.

I don't know how long I can carry on with this. My temper is shot, I'm getting angry a lot, lot more than I want to and it's starting to affect me at work, my patience used to last hours, now I can't get through a half hour phone call with a customer without having to make up some bullshit excuse to put them on hold so I can calm down. I don't like this, I can't handle the dog, the three other people in my house won't handle her in any meaningful way, I can't keep their brutes away from my dog, I can't feed her, I can't train her, I can't do anything about anything and I don't know what to do.

I just got a puppy and she came from a home that too many dogs to begin with and they were going to take the pups to the pound so I said I'd take one.

when the lady came to drop her off, she said she kept bringing her outside and that as soon as she would come in she would go pee or poop.

I've been noticing it too. I brought her outside for a little bit about 20 mins ago and we came in and about 2 mins later she took a poop on the floor. but we were outside for at least like 20 mins .. can someone give me some advice on how to handle this? I'll be honest it's my first time having a pup this young (shes 10 weeks) so this is all new to me as I've had my cats my entire life

I'm trying to give her the best life I can and really want this to work. she's been making me soo happy so far and my daughter loves her.

I just got my pup yesterday and she's been nippy/teeth.. I know it's normal for a pup mind you but what can I do to help? I have a 5 year old so her nipping at my daughter just makes my daughter lose it so I'm trying to find some tips and tricks to help ..

she's also been chewing on the stair railing and I've been trying to get her to stop, but she just keeps going back -_- also she keeps trying to nip my daughter's hair, any tips?

We just adopted two new 8 week old puppies, they are brother and sister.

The brother is my 20 year old son’s dog while the sister is ours. We want to crate them in separate rooms. The boy in my son’s room and the girl in ours.

At night it is brutal…the crying and whining for each other. We get some peace then one of them wakes up and it starts right up. I get it, they have only lived together and they are living in an unfamiliar place. They do spend most of the day together and if they are separated they start right up. Like when I feed them in their crates as soon as they are done they try to fund each other and if they can’t they start right up.

What can we do to ease them being separated? Any tips?

before i start i just want to say i am training all day everyday with my cavalier and he does so well most of the time i cant even discredit him because i know hes trying. It gets to a point with training that i stop caring about giving him the healthy treats, i look everywhere for high value low calorie treats and he does not listen well with most treats. on walks we work on drop it and 80% of the time he does so well but when he finds the most nastiest thing in the world to eat off the street my treats are not the better option. does anyone have treat recommendations for training that ACTUALLY makes them listen and drop anything in their mouth for i don’t care if they are healthy or not i just need him to listen .

I have a beagle, and he doesn't listen to me at all when we go for walks. I'm even afraid to let him off the leash because I think he'll run away. It seems like he doesn't pay any attention to me. But at home, everything is fine. He responds and comes when I call him.

I used to live in a flat in the Netherlands. There was a small dog, likely a Chihuahua, living on the same floor as me. The dog barked at me every time it met me or passed by my door for no reason. One day, I barked back at the dog when it barked at me. The dog got confused and angry. I found this funny.

Hey Reddit! Help me decide if I should get a puppy. I know, I'm crazy for wanting a puppy. BUT I'm willing to put in the months of work, and lose sleep while I train it. I'd rather have a puppy and train it with good manners and obedience, than getting a dog I don't know it's history.

We're a family of three; me, my husband and my 10 year old son. I grew up with dogs and cats my whole life, but have been petless for the past 7 years. My son has been asking for a dog for years and we're almost ready to give in. He's at a good age now where he can share the responsibility, but it doesn't matter how much I explain how hard it is having a dog, it's one of those things you don't know until you're in it.

My husband…is not a dog person. He's basically agreed because both me and my son want one. He agreed to take care of it during the day (he works from home) while me and my son are at work/school. But mornings and nights will be on me. Fine, I'm okay with that.

I keep flip flopping hard. One second I'm like WOO lets do this, I want a little fluff ball to eat my socks and play fetch with. Then the next second I'm like, what my son realizes it's too much work and doesn't want it anymore. Then I'm like we can take it to the beach and play in the water, then I'm like…oh wait, wet dog smell. haha.

My son is an only child, and having pets was such a core memory for me growing up. He loves dogs and gravitates to them when we're around them. He has anxiety and self-esteem issues, and my biggest reason for wanting one is to help him. Any thoughts or advice to help me flip or flop one way or the other would be appreciated.

So my dog likes to do this sometimes, mostly at night and I've always been curious as to why or if anyone else's doggo does the same?

He was born deaf if that has anything to do with it as he's the only dog out of my others to do this and the rest were born with hearing.

He likes to shove his nose right into a rug or his dog bed and tries to breath through his mouth? It's always been so strange to see as it's not like normal panting. When he does it, it sounds like he is always trying to breathe more air in and then like forces it out his mouth because his nose is shoved right into a rug blocking his nostrils?

i'm interested to see if anyone else's doggo does this!
