Bringing home my first puppy ever. I have no idea where to start. I have had many dogs but they were always 3-4 years old when we got them. I have been reading up on puppy schedules and I know enough from experience that you do not give them full rein of the house but to keep them limited to a room and that they must always be supervised.

The puppy is a little over 3 months old. I have other dogs in the house that are 6 years old and 10. I have so many questions but will focus on these:

1. is it even possible to crate train the puppy if the adult dog is not crated and has free rein of the house?

2. The puppy spent all of her 3 months with a littermate 24/7. How do I deal with that kind of separation anxiety?

3. I feel embarrassed asking this one. How do I leave the house? It’s going to take time to crate train, right? If I put her in a smaller room, she’s never really been alone and I’m sure will make a fuss.

Yeah, I do feel like I bit off more than I can chew and should have done more to prepare.

my puppy is around 4-5 months old and is a terrier (best guess is a smooth fox terrier) but he is definitely a mix of some kind.

I want to get to the point where he can be completely freeroam and have the downstairs for himself to roam, ive puppy proofed it and am going to put a puppy gate on the stairs (this means hed get the whole living and kitchen area), hes currently crated in our bedroom when we arent home or when he needs a rest but he keeps toiletting in the crate so my best thought is to remove the crate entirely and restart the toilet training process.

I do still think it would be safest to use the crate overnight though as we have 4 other animals (3 cats and a chihuahua) and he is quite boisterous and always excited by them but im just really not sure what to do and i also feel like even if i think ive puppy proofed downstairs im worried hes gonna somehow find Something.

was anyone else really reluctant to return their puppy even tho they had BAD puppy blues? i feel so bad for returning my 10 week border collie and its only been a week. i’m still young and idk why my parents agreed to me having a puppy, the sudden change in my routine stressed me out a crap ton since i’m already terrible with change. don’t get me wrong, i love my puppy but the constant biting, pooping and peeing everywhere is really starting to get me. everyday i would get at least 6k steps from taking care of my puppy alone. i also put a ton of pressure on myself, to train my dog the absolute best and make sure he doesn’t have any health issues. another reason why i wanna return him is because i can’t handle seeing another one of my pets die again, even tho i know dogs don’t die until like a decade later. did any other puppy parent return their dog and how did it feel? how were you able to cope with the emotions and should i wait longer to see if i actually wanna keep the dog? i do really love him

Hi all. We have a one year and 3 month old PWD. At night time, we sleep upstairs in our bed and he sleeps in his crate (unlocked) downstairs. We used to have a pen attached to the crate when he was younger.

Every night before we go to bed, we try to let him in our backyard to poop. We have waited 30 minutes sometimes, but he never poops at night. Ever.

When we used the pen, he would not poop in the pen or crate. However, since we have gotten rid of the pen, he will now poop downstairs.

We do not want to use the pen forever as it’s extremely bulky, and he can be trusted with being alone downstairs (save the nighttime poops). We also know that closing him inside the crate at night is a recipe for disaster as he will scream the house down.

I’m not sure where we failed and prevented setting him up for success, and I’m not sure where we go from here. The worst part is he doesn’t really cry for the bathroom, even during the day. He just paws at the door and we can’t hear that from upstairs. Sometimes he will whine. But at night, it’s dead quiet, so we don’t know to get up and let him out. He just does it. At best, he will cry and be vocal AFTER.

Any tips or advice is appreciated because we know this isn’t sustainable and we need to do something different.

My 6‑month‑old Lab has been going through some nighttime crate regression, and I’m curious how others handled this stage.

For context, his crate is in the room next to our bedroom. This might be on me because my boyfriend was away on a work trip, and during that time I let our puppy sleep in our bedroom in his dog bed. He slept great in our room, didn’t need to get up to potty, and actually got a full night’s rest.

But when he’s in the crate, he hasn’t been sleeping through the night and it really seems like he has trouble settling in there.

We still plan on using the crate when we leave him home for short periods, so I’m not trying to ditch crate training altogether. I’m just wondering what people think about letting him sleep in his dog bed in our room at night instead of crating him. Is this a normal transition around this age? Did it cause issues for anyone long term?

Would love to hear what worked for you and your pups.

Thank you all so much for the help and advice recently, hes at 7.5 hours in crate with 0 accidents overnight.

Now i would like to ask/get advice with training. He know sit, lie down, hi 5 (paw) and done well with wait (not fully there yet say 50%), off, enough (for biting feets, teething landshark yay)

But he doesnt do well as of now with return (responds to name somewhat, but is easily distracted) and retrieve (loves getting ball, but doesnt want to return ball as an example) and impulse control.

Any tips to help with training him, its hard to see if its all too much at once.

Ive got puppy classes booked in 3 weeks for him (Timings didnt work out or would have been sooner)

Il stress i know hes still a puppy and isnt going to be perfect.

I am looking for a lid or something of the sort that fits on to a standard biking water bottle and can fit in the bottle cage on my bike. I have a Slurpy Sack 2.0 and love that the bowl flips up and down, that my dog can drink out of it easier and the fact that no water goes to waste. Is there a lid like this that fits onto a standard bike bottle?

The reason I’m asking is because I go on a lot of short rides with my dog and would love to store her bottle on my bike in the cage. The bottle we have now falls out of the cage because it is flexible and I haven’t found another bottle that works like this one.

Any suggestions?

I am flying to EU next month and my uncle from Spain asked me if I can take his dog home to the Philippines. My return flight to the Philippines is from Rome, Italy but the dog is from Spain. He said he can do all the requirements from Spain (EU Pet passport, Vet Certificates, etc.)

I've read somewhere that if exporting a dog from I will need a Azienda Sanitaria Locale Export Certificate but I also read that this is issued to citizens and residents only. The dog is not registered with Italy…Do I still need to secure an ASL certificate for my flight?
