  • What are the best hand signals you teach your puppy?

We have a gorgeous (and suspiciously smart) 18 week cocker spaniel pup. We have to keep her brain engaged because she’s so smart. One thing we’ve started doing, after our trainer put us onto it, is hand signals instead of verbal cues.

I think this is really effective, particularly for loud or chaotic spaces like near a road. She responds to hand signals so well, but we (humans) only know a few basics so far, so it got me wondering if there any useful signals you use with your pup?

  • 8 month old pup destroys every toy within 5 minutes

English setter pup, rips them to shreds within seriously 5 minutes.

Is this just how he is and always will be or is it a sign of something else? Boredom?

Even if he is dead tired he still finds the energy to mutilate any toy within his path..

We even bought ‘’really sturdy’’ or ‘’unbreakable’’ toys, no match for him tho..

  • At what age did you feel safe leaving your child around your dog unsupervised?

I have a 3 year old beagle mix and a 1 year old toddler. The beagle wants to play with the toddler, but hasn’t learned how to play toddler-level gentle yet. The toddler wants to play with the beagle, but also hasn’t learned gentle hands yet. I think it’s going to be *a while* before they understand each other. How old were your kids when you felt safe not being there 100% of the time to moderate their behavior? I’m thinking somewhere between 5-10 years old, but may be way off…

  • Help to Find Bed Ramp for Dog with IVDD

I have an 8 year old Bichon who had surgery for IVDD a couple of years ago. We currently have steps for her to use when getting into our bed, however, they are steep and difficult for her to use. My bed is about 26" high. I'm looking for recommendations for a ramp (not steps) that isn't too steep for her to use. In the alternative, if you have a recommendation for steps that aren't steep, I'll take a look at those too. I just want her to be comfortable and watching her come down the steps puts so much pressure on her.

  • How do I stop puppy biting?

I have an almost 9 week old Samoyed puppy and she is a little terror. She won't stop biting litterly everyone and it's getting to be overwhelming. Ive tried every method I could find online and nothing helps if anything she starts biting more because she thinks I'm playing with her. It's driving me nuts and I don't know what to do, I cant even redirect her she just keeps going after my hands and feet. Any advice is welcomed because I don't know what to do.

  • Scootin’ on the rug

We've had several occasions where our dog "scoots" on our rug. Unless she does it while we're awake, we can't train her out of it, nor can we get the stains out, even with a rug cleaner.

I'd really like to try getting another rug, but not before getting some suggestions on how to stop the behavior. Any thoughts?

Iemand hiermee ervaring?

  • Please chip your dogs I am begging

Hi everyone!! I am here to beg and plead you to chip your dogs. I know it might seem like “he’s always with me! He wouldn’t run away!” But we don’t know what can happen.

I found a very cute six month old puppy quaking under a car. He as well groomed and had a collar. He clearly belonged to someone. I learned later that he was over an hour by car away from his home the same morning he went missing. I cannot think of another situation other than someone nefarious took him and maybe dumped him. People can be so mean. Many people were messaging me about this dog that I had to form a set of questions to prove ownership.

The owners came to a shelter so far out hoping desperately. It was a shock when they saw his picture. I am overjoyed to report that he has reunited with his owners.

To that end: please chip your dogs. I was so worried he’d never go home again. This ending is happy but I am sure many are not.

  • Megathread: Why Does My Dog Do That?

Does your dog turn his head when he hears an odd noise? Does your dog bury their food with your pants? This is the thread to ask why.
