  • My puppy peed on the couch

Hello my 6 month old puppy peed on my couch around a week ago when he broke out of his crate when I wasn't home. I have tried everything I can think of and the smell will not go away and it's driving me crazy. I have tried generously spraying the couch with the enzyme cleaner and that doesn't seem to work either. Does anyone have any tips for this or am I screwed? The couch's texture is a short fur texture it's a boneless couch.

  • Need some help with bell training

I have a 1 year old corgi. I've been trying to teach him to signal me when to go out using bells.

I've gotten to the point where he rings the bells every time it's his scheduled potty break, but I think he's inadvertently learned that ringing the bell = getting my attention instead of going outside to the yard. He'll ring the bell on his own, I diligently go to open the door, but he just stares at me instead unless I leash him up and take him outside myself.

What should my approach be to get him to learn that bell = going outside instead?

  • Help! I need help crate training 4.5mo old

We’ve been trying to teach Mr. Moon (4.5mo old cockapoo) that the crate isn’t scary. He’s fine in the night, for the most part. Some protesting when we initially put him in but he settles within 20 to 25 minutes and he’s fine for the night. Last night, he woke up around 2am with his potty bark, so we took him out for a very quick boring potty break and put him back in – again, about 20 minutes of protesting and he settled.

During the day however, Jesus help us. If we left for an hour, he’s doing his attention grabbing bark for almost the entire hour until we get back. (We hear it on the ring cam). (He’s peed, he’s pooped already so it’s not his bathroom bark). If we give him a Kong or a lick mat, that keeps him busy for 10/15/20 minutes and then the barking begins. White noise and cover over the crate not making a difference.

Also – do you put your puppy in the crate for every nap they take during the day?

What do we do. What are we doing wrong?

  • Second Wave of Fear?

I have an 11 month old male lab. Up until recently he was totally fine going to the bathroom around my apartment complex. I live in a pretty busy area with a lot of noise (cars, people, trucks, etc.), but it never seemed to bother him before.

I was away on a trip recently, and since getting back he’s been acting much more timid, especially when it comes to going to the bathroom in his usual spots. Last night he would start to pee and then stop almost immediately. He seems way more distracted by noises than he used to be.

This morning he didn’t pee, didn’t poop last night or this morning. He just seems unsure and on edge compared to how he was before.

Otherwise he’s acting normal inside, eating, drinking, playing, etc. It’s just outside where he seems hesitant.

Has anyone experienced this around this age? I’ve read about fear periods around 10–12 months but wasn’t sure if this is typical, especially after a trip. Any suggestions on how to help him get comfortable again in his usual spots?

  • My 10 week cavapoo puppy suddenly very calm?

I adopted my pup 2 weeks ago and she has been a menace (as any pup). But suddenly this morning she’s calm (not lethargic) but just cuddly?

She engaged with a few toys before we even peed first thing in am, ate just fine, pooped after her first nap, but now she isn’t being crazy, she’s just sitting with me on the couch and chewing on a blanket, I tried to engage with her with toys but she doesn’t seem too interested, nothing else seems off with her physically but I’m just a bit worried. She also wasn’t crazy about trying to eat my ankles yesterday and I thought that was her favorite hobby…

(I do know she was the calmest puppy out of her litter, but I am still a bit worried something is wrong, is she just growing up? Does it get quiet before her teen age and teething comes in?)

This is my first puppy, and I lost my 2.5year dog very suddenly so I am very anxious rn…

    Thank you in advance

    Edit: some additional info

She even took a longer nap yesterday once (1.5h and she usually only naps for like 45-60min) and this morning she woke up from her nap when I was in the bathroom, she whined quietly as usual but by the time I came back to her crate she was asleep again and that happens very rarely)

She had DHPP vaccine at 7 weeks and a follow up last Saturday (so 4 days ago) she had next guard plus on the 19th in case this is relevant

  • 13 mo old not giving potty alert

My 13 month old yorkie has been doing pretty well at potty training, but most of this is because we take him outside regularly, not because he’s telling us he need to.

We tried bells, but he treated them as attention getters for playtime or outside playtime. To the point where certain times we were taking him outside every 5 min bc of him ringing the bells. They have been gone for about 6 months now.

He was sleeping in his crate to avoid night time potty’s until 11 months, when he started waking up and barking about 4 hours into the night. We first tried to calm him, then went back to bed – more barking. Second took him outside to go potty – would go then back to the crate, more barking 2 hours later (we also didn’t like this as we’re training him that barking means he gets to go outside during the night to potty, which we’re really trying to instill in him is not ok, up until 9 months he was holding it all night ok).

2 months ago we started letting him sleep in the bed. First month with the door closed to the bedroom – great! Now that it’s getting warmer (southwest US), we need to keep the door open for cooling our room and he gets up without us hearing him and goes potty by the door to outside. No alert, no waking us up.

Any advice would be appreciated as I’d rather not have a secondary thermostat to cool our bedroom better and pay $100 more a month in utilities to regulate the bedroom temp separately to be able to keep the door closed.

He just simply doesn’t know how to tell us he needs to potty, or we can’t figure out what his alert is.

Any advice welcome, feeling very defeated over here.

  • I might be obsessed with puppies… ended up making something because of it 😅 curious what you think

    Hey everyone 🐾

I really love puppies, and I realized I spend way too much time watching them and thinking about them 😅

So I ended up making a small little “thing” inspired by that… wasn’t really planning to share it anywhere, but now I’m curious

Do you guys enjoy puppy-themed stuff outside of videos/photos? Like games or interactive things?

Or do you mostly just stick to watching cute videos?

  • HELP – Foster Care for Gentle, Kind, Loving Pitti

HELP – I have a family member who loves her 7 year old sweet pitti female. She is 7 years old and 55 pounds. She is on a situation that she can’t care for her right now as she is getting settled due to some life issues. She only needs help got a month and can get her pup back. The pitti is with a friend who is keeping her crated most of the day and it is heartbreaking. She has lost some weight and it is breaking my family member’s heart. She goes everyday to

Spend time and take her out.

Please any guidance on Foster care and how you locate a good foster. She would do better as the only dog bc that is how she lives. Thank you to all who can help. If you can’t be kind and helpful don’t respond.

  • Puppy hates having harness put on in the morning

So my miniature dachshund is almost 6 months old, and he has generally been pretty easy to train. He got used to sleeping in his crate like 2 days after we got him (as a 12 week baby), and generally is happy to nap in there / sleep through the whole night 95% of the time. Every now and then he'll bark when we put him in, but it's rare and usually just because he's thirsty or didn't get enough exercise. He's been learning "leave it", "sit", "look", and crosswalk crossing well, and we're just now starting with "come" (shoutout to Sue Ailsby's training levels!).

Anyways, my issue is that he seems to hate having his harness / leash put on. In the mornings when I go to let him out of the crate and bring him down for the walk, he won't come out if he sees the harness and he growls/tries to bite me i try to pick him up myself. He also runs away from me when i pick up the leash

when he's out of the crate already.

This is the ONLY time he ever acts this way. He seems to enjoy his walks (will take me around the neighborhood / park for an hour or more whenever i let him) and is super sociable with other dogs and people. He never growls at me at any other time, and he's super playful and cuddly throughout the rest of the day. I asked his vet recently and he told me the harness is properly fitted for him and shouldn't be an issue. I have tried giving him treats while i put the harness on, but he ignores the treats if he knows what I want from him. I've tried closing the crate again if he growls at me, but after 2-3 tries I usually have to pull him out anyways bc I have to get on with my day… It's just getting really frustrating and puts unnecessary stress between us.

Anyways, my question: how can I help him be more comfortable with having his harness / leash put on??
