  • How much do you all walk your puppy?

Hi! We have a 14week cavapoo. She had her vaccinations 2 weeks ago, so today is the first day she is allowed out. Just wondering how much to walk her and for how long? We have been going to the end of the close and back just to let her have a sniff. Once she is used the outside world how much should we walk her? How far/long? Thanks!

  • Im Such a Proud Mother

After seeing how other dogs behave (even the one from my dog’s same birth parents), I am happy to say I’m so happy I have my puppy.

He is the sweetest, smartest, kindest boy I know. He is a seven month old German Shepherd Puppy (eight months on the 1st), and has nothing but kindness for everything in his little heart.

I worked so hard to make sure he could live a good life, even during my heavy depression periods, and no matter what, he proves he is just the bestest boy.

I honestly thought I would crumble under the stress of puppy blues and potty training, but he made everything so much smoother, which I didn’t know until I fostered other puppies.

He runs to me when I cry, waits patiently for any and everything, never tries to eat my food, lets me give him hugs, is patient in the bath even if it’s the last place he wants to be, jumps in a river even when he’s scared to save my husband when he thinks he’s drowning (weird but true), acts stubborn when he doesnt want to leave our room (annoying but cute).

There are so many reasons I love my dog, but he truly saves me from myself. Im so so lucky. Im SO proud of my boy.

  • Wearing cone in the crate

Hey y’all. My 6 month old black lab puppy was viciously attacked on our walk yesterday by 3 dogs that escaped out of the front door behind the little girl that lives there. After 7 excruciating hours at the ER vet, he’s home with us and healing. His prognosis is good but due to all the punctures on his body he needs a cone.

He also is crate trained and only wants to sleep there. I tried to make a den environment outside of his crate so he had more room in it with the cone but he just kept going back to his crate. We have an extra large dog crate so I don’t think we could size up, it’s just not meant to comfortably house a cone. He does seem to settle once we can get him laid down in a good position but repositioning is tricky for him in the middle of the night. Luckily he seems to be managing sleep well with all the meds he’s on but I guess I just want some advice? Words of wisdom? He won’t be in the cone forever so maybe it’s a “this too shall pass” kinda thing and we just make it work? Anyway thanks for reading my novel. Any and all advice is welcome.

  • Venting Fed up – Pug Puppy 7.5 months

Here is the kicker in Massachusetts we had tons of snow this year. The dog did great. She understood the assignment it is cold do my business I get a treat and get inside.

One problem we are having is she honestly doesn't drink a ton and she has a sensitive belly so we cant give her wet food cause she needs beef/salmon/lamb with oats, no corn no chicken.

As soon as the weather turned good, she stop going to the bathroom. She sniff out side looks around is very hyper attuned to everything.

As I type this. She has not gone pee since 930PM last night. It is 1:53PM next day. She has been crated the whole day with water and a chew. I even gave her a cong with peanut butter to get her to drink but that didn't work.

I have taken her out 7 times today and no joy she is not doing anything.

she is going opt spend the day in the crate and I mean all day and night if she doesn't do anything. I am done, I have catered to her spoiled ass to much. As a puppy she was not happy to be put in a crate so I allowed her out with me in my office and to cuddle and to play with me during the day and i watched her diligently to make sure the minimum amount of accidents would happen.

But she is not understanding if you have the opportunity to go, you need to go.

And dont come at me saying dont use the crate as a punishment cause it is not a punishment. We took her outside at 5PM last night she peed and at 530 she pooped in the house.

She gets to stay in the crate until she can be trusted to do her business.

And she is doing the same shit with eating. refusing to eat. I finally had enough and said you get 2 times a day no more grazing, and it gets picked up. And she gets Hangry. Last night she was so hyper for food; cause she didn't get enough because she refused to fully eat it when given. My hubby took her out and she again refused to do anything. She came in hyper and I gave her the 2 dog treats she gets at night do to acid belly. Then took her out and she immediately peed for me.

I have had 4 pugs prior, understand this I know the breed. But not eating and not drinking is new for me with the pugs..

I have taken her to the Vet and have said this stuff to him and he said she is fine. If she doesn't pee put her in the crate and then try again.

Don't honestly know what i am going to do if I can't get her to understand when she goes out she needs to do her business. And you know after after 17 hours she needs to do her business. I don't mind accidents that are accidents. But refusing, and knowing you should be going is a different story.

On top of it she has entered her first heat. 3 days in and she doesn't like having a diaper on. Only good thing is being in a crate she is not spreading blood every where.

  • Am I doing Anything Wrong

For context, my puppy is almost 9 weeks old and a giant schnauzer that i’ve had for about a week. I feel like the crying just won’t stop. I feel like nothing is working. I’m trying the music, the blanket over the crate, treats (they don’t work on her bc she has no attention span), toys, and playing w her. is this normal behavior for her age or do i need to change something in my routine? i take her out every 2-3 hours and feed her around 7, 2/3, and 8. last night she finally went to sleep for around 6 hours straight which was great. she has a play pen but just cries in it forever. she does stop crying in the crate eventually but it can take up to 45 min. i’m sooo sleep deprived and i just want to make sure if i need to do something different.

  • New puppy is trying to room with older hound and he isn’t loving it

We got a new puppy Saturday. She is doing great with my older dogs and they love her. The only problem we are having is my hound likes to hang out in his kennel from time to time and she keeps trying to climb in with him. He has been very tolerant of it so far but you can tell he doesn't like sharing his space. She has her own kennel and we are working on kennel training. How can I keep her out of his kennel without damaging the progress we have made in her training?

  • Puppy likes walks until I enforce boundaries.

I have a 3 month old giant breed puppy. Finally got the all clear to go in walks, YAY! The issue is weird or maybe im weird.

Shes always rearing to go, sniff, and watch the world but as soon as I start setting boundaries (not letting her eat stuff off the ground, not pulling, not allowing her to run up to strangers or other dogs) she seems over the entire outing quickly and then just she walks as slow as possible as if to protest the restrictions lol. And its not like we go far, its 15 mins tops and not at a brisk pace. Never had a pup ''pout'' like this.

We do work on focus skills and what not but shes over the treats pretty quickly too.

  • How to get my pup to be more interested on walks?

I have a 9 month old sheltie who is absolutely great. Leash training her has been seriously so easy and such a breeze. She has basically never gone through a phase of wanting to pull or acting crazy and I think it’s because I made a strong effort to be the absolute most interesting thing to her. Well now she only wants to be by my side, she’s almost always engaged with me and uninterested in anything else. She will very occasionally stop to sniff something briefly but otherwise she is completely uninterested in exploring. How should I get her to explore more? I have a 30ft leash and open field but she just simply does not want to go explore. I feel worried she does not enjoy going on walks and would like to make them more fun and exciting for her.

  • Does my dog care if the lights are on or not?

For background, my dog’s crate is in the laundry room which has no windows. He is crated while me and my partner are at work, but with the way our schedules overlap, he is only ever in there for about 4-5 hours max. He’s 2 but has been crate trained since he was a pup, and seems to like to hang out in there, even if it’s just with the door open while we are home. I’ve been leaving the light on for him because I know if I were in there all day, I would want the lights on. I leave the door open too, so there is a bit of natural light coming in,but it’s still quite dark. I’m just wondering, does that actually make him more comfortable or am I just racking up my electric bill? Maybe a night light would be a better option? Or maybe I’m just falsely assigning him human feelings lol. TIA! 😅

  • Teeth and Digestion safe Chew Toy Recommendations?

I’m looking for “bone” recommendations for my two dogs who are medium/hard chewers. Lately I got them the Woof Honest Chew antler and the LOVE it. I haven’t had any issues with digestion or anything, but I recently read a few reviews about dogs breaking their teeth on these bones which made me nervous. Now I’m on the hunt for a new option that’s not as hard on their teeth but is still safe if ingested, or so durable that I don’t have to worry about ingestion.

I’m not interested in yak chews or bully sticks. I’ve used both in the past and they are too much of a choking hazard and could still hurt their teeth.

I’m hoping to find something made of natural materials or natural rubber as well. No plastic or nylon. Also if they have a flavor even better.

I found Betterbone chews that seem similar to the woof honest chew but come in soft and medium. The reviews are pretty mixed and it seems like they have big chunks that can break off.

TLDR; looking for dog chews that will last a few weeks that aren’t going to break their teeth or give them a blockage if ingested. No yak chews or bully sticks. Dogs are medium/hard chewers. Prefer natural ingredients, no nylon or plastic.
