  • Help, might have to put my puppy up for adoption?

Hello! My puppy is around 7 months old, a pitbull chihuahua mix, i’ve had him for around 4 months now and he’s perfect in every way except being consistent in his bathroom usage. since i’ve had him he has peed on my couch, bed, clothes, etc… he will poop on the living room floor and anywhere else even if the door is open. He knows to go outside to use the bathroom because he will whine in his crate to go outside or the rare occasion scratch at the back door but i have been consistent with a regime and even tried putting him in his crate throughout the day and letting him go outside in intervals (obviously throughout the day for over 30 min), i’ve tried rewarding, walks, fixed schedules (we’ve been on one that is every 4-6 hours now as he’s older and i work) he gets fed every morning for breakfast at 7 am on the dot. I’m just getting so frustrated and my place feels gross no matter how much i clean it and i love this puppy but im really at my breaking point.

ps for context he isn’t fixed but he isn’t lifting his leg, its genuine puddles of pee and unfortunately A LOT of it.

  • Collar type struggles

I’m looking for a nice 1.5” collar and not sure where to go

I have a golden retriever pup who just doesn’t look comfortable in a 1inch collar, she has a martingale at a 1.5” as she used to back out of a standard collar but has since stopped that behaviour and now I don’t particularly need to use it especially as I don’t expect her to walk in a heel 24/7

It’s so hard to find collars that wide that aren’t necessarily heavy duty tactical collars that I think would look too bulky on her or martingale collars

I’m looking at layered biothane collars but can’t decide if I love or hate how they look

  • How to deal with strangers who keep rewarding the jumping

My mini poodle puppy is almost 6 months old. Out on walks I try my best to put distance between myself and others but sometimes I find myself in situations where it’s unavoidable. Once they’re within reach he goes from 0 to 100 and almost every single time they reward the jumping. Some even get offended when I tell them he’s in training and to ignore him.

As an example, today a guy actually walked right up to us and did the usual reward the behaviour. When I tried to explain he’s in training he stormed off and said “If you can’t control your dog it shouldn’t be on the foot path”. 🙄

  • Over excited with my aunt

I have a female mutt 4 months old and 11 kg already. She is very social with all animals including humans, friendly and very brave! I have a situation with her and my aunt, they love each other and cannot control themselves at all. I am trying to teach my puppy to not jump or react to people and perhaps it is working so far, but whenever she sees my aunt forgets everything. Typically they see each other once or twice a day, but wonder if this will affect greatly my training. Can someone more experienced share some thoughts as this is my first dog in my life.

  • I’m in puppy heck – leash/walking training going poorly

I have a 10 week old female lab puppy. She's adorable of course. I have a spacious pen attached to her crate in the living room so she doesn't poo all over the house. She sleeps well in her crate and my daughter, age 10, is doing a lot of the work taking care of her.

But I wonder if maybe I haven't bonded with her enough in my efforts to help my daughter bond with her, and now the puppy doesn't want to go on walks with me at all.

Here's what's happening: When we go for a walk all together, my daughter, the puppy, our older toy poodle mix, and me, things are a little chaotic but they go kind of well. A major problem is that the puppy will sit down and refuse to walk. Once she does walk she tries to eat everything she sees on the ground, but she'll follow our older dog and has fun.

But I want to work with her walking on her leash so she'll actually move when it's time to walk and eventually learn to heel, etc. The first couple days were a dream and she did so well. But now she doesn't want to go too far from the house. I've tried using a highly tasty treat to get her to walk forwards and reward her but that doesn't work anymore. She digs in and it's just a stressful, embarrassing battle. There's never a point where she gives in and just goes with it. She even trembles and just wants to go back inside.

She goes outside many times a day off leash to potty and she scampers around happily then. But I'm stressed because soon she'll be so big and I don't want an out of control dog. I'm catastrophizing a bit, we've had her less than a week (it will be a week in Saturday). But I'm freaking out, I feel like all the neighbors see me with this puppy pulling like a bull and thrashing around while I dangle a stick of cheese in front of her nose with sweat pouring down my face. 😭

    What do I do?

  • How can kids help train new pup?

We have a 10 week old bernadoodle and zero prior experience with dogs. Kids are under 9. How can they help train our pup at this age ? We’re all learning as we go.

  • how do I train my Shepherd so that he loves being brushed?

I have 100 pound shepherd mix with a big fluffy coat prone to dreadlocks who absolutely abhors being brushed. He gets defensive to the point of high-pitched barking and occasional nipping.

How do I train him to enjoy being brushed, and what gentle yet effective brushes do you recommend for dogs with thick, long fur? I got a furminator, but it's scratchy and he doesn't like it. I want a brush he will LOVE being brushed with

  • My dog is suddenly afraid to go outside at night?

hey guys, my dog is a year and a half old. she's a border collie golden retriever. she's been really good with everything as to be expected with her, but yesterday night I let her out for her last potty before bed and she bolted back inside quickly and proceeded to pee all over my kitchen floor. I thought maybe there was a snack or a sound that scared her so she ran back inside quickly and peed. but tonight she once again was to afraid to go out. she like stuck her head out and refused again. I went and checked the yard and found nothing wrong. closed her in the back yard with me and she refused to leave the door and was jumping up on it whining just wanting to go back inside.

she's fine during the day and seems perfectly fine outside normally. just after dark she's now terrified.

we have never left her outside all night and she's never been injured outside or anything.

we live in north carolina if that matters at all. she didn't have problems last year around this time.
