  • Should i wake my sleeping puppy to go to the bathroom? (8.5 weeks)

Hello all. I have a 8.5 week old Labrador puppy who as of now has just went over his 2 hourly wakeup but is still asleep.

Typically he will begin barking and whining in his crate if he needs to pee, but tonight he has remained asleep.

He had quite a busy day of play and the vet and is likely tired, but do i wake him up?

  • How do I stop mouthing??

Hi! I have a 10 month old puppy. We were told she was a chihuahua/lab mix from the rescue but she’s definitely more Min Pin. She’s an amazing dog! Training has been a breeze.

But one behavior I’m struggling to correct….

    Playful mouthing/biting.

Whenever she is playing or wants someone to love on her or play with her she mouths on you. She never really bites down but can occasionally lightly graze with her teeth. But you can tell there’s no intention to actually bite she’s just mouthing.

Is this normal for a puppy her age? How do I break this habit? Struggling to find training ideas to nip this behavior.

Pic of my pup for attention! ☺️

  • First time puppy owner and going to get a Weiler Dane (Rottweiler / Great Dane cross)

I just need some advise on what to expect, what I should look into, where to find sources about the breed, how to properly socialize my dog ect. It’s really hard to find resources on this specific dog and I’ve been looking everywhere. I also have 2 children (2 and 4) and have been doing some research on how to raise them around children, but willing to hear more advice what what I should do. Thanks 🙂

  • Puppy having issues with aggression and extreme fear with dogs due being attacked, please help!

Hi! This is my first time posting here so please excuse me if this is jumbled. I have a 10 month old Aussie mix (unsure with what) puppy who was an impromtu rescue from a very poor amish farm situation when she was 12 weeks.

I spent months getting her to overcome her anxietys, using medications, treats, and training and got her to no longer fear cars and dogs and we were doing great! However, my stepbrother has a very aggressive aussie husky mix who he brought over to our house for a family gathering, during which he cornered my puppy (she had a treat and he was attempting to get it from her) and bit her on the shoulder and pinned her against the wall. I heard her yelling and ran over to snatch her up and took her away to calm down in another room but it took her hours to stop shaking and drooling and longer for her to eat anything.

I was really hoping this hadnt made a serious dent in her fear of dogs but it seems like it has. She recently had a playdate with one of my friends dogs that she previously has met and got along with amazingly, but she immediately started barking and crying and was incredibly aggressive and terrified. We tried treats, scent rubbing, letting our other two dogs come out to show her he wasnt a threat, nothing worked.

I've ordered her a muzzle for the time being to ensure her safety and other dogs for when I have her out but I just have no clue what to do. It took months to get her to be less anxious and fearful of dogs and now shes even worse than before. I could really use any suggestions or ideas.

TLDR: 10 m/o puppy got bit and cornered by larger dog, now aggressive and anxious towards all unfamiliar dogs, please help!

  • Is this dog story funny or tragic?

We were about to arrive home from a week-long vacation to Ohio to visit my relatives. As we pull into my driveway, one of my three dogs, Rosie, comes flying from the second story and lands right in front of us. We were freaked out, and we rushed to her to check for injuries. Thankfully, she was fine besides some bleeding. Turns out she was so excited to see us that she jumped off of our balcony due to excitement.

  • how to deal with dog jumping on people and dogs?

I recently moved to a big city with my 1.5 lab/golden mix girl. She is coming from staying in a house with backyard and green fields now to a city life.

She usually will pull on leash when she sees a dog but didn't usually do it for people. Now she will randomly lunge at people too. I don't know how to train her to stop this behavior.

Does anyone have any advice? I am hoping its because she is adjusting to a different life style but would like to nip it in the bud before it gets worse

    Thanks

  • Picky Eater Vent and Advise Request

Note: this post is both a vent and seeking advise.

Backstory: I have a 4 month old poochon/bichon poo pup. He used to enjoy eating kibbles but slowly grew tired of eating it. We swap to another brand of kibbles and the same thing happened. He ate with gusto for awhile and grew tired of it. We ended up adding in toppers like broth, yogurt, pumpkin and some other human safe food to get him to be interested in eating the kibbles. It worked for a while and then he refused to eat it again. (Which I learn and now know that what I have done is what's causing he to develop pickiness in his food and I would like to undo it.)

Vent: Sometimes he would eat kibbles, one kibbles by one kibbles, when fed by hand. But I cannot spend 1 to 2 hours every meal feeding him by hands. T.T I love him so so much but his refusal to eat kibbles is driving me crazy with worry that he may not be getting enough nutrition his body needs to grow. I am so worried!

Advise needed: I read online as well as some reddit posts here that the method to get him back onto kibble diet is to place his kibbles down for 15mins and then keep it away until the next meal time. No treats or human food at all inbetween. And repeat until he realises that he is not going to get anything else other than kibbles and he need to eat it fast before it gets taken away. This is a method I am planning to try but I just have 2 queries. Number one, is it safe for a growing puppy to go without food for 1 day or 2 days? Number two, once the kibbles and nothing "clicks" for him, and he learns to eat his kibbles, can he later still enjoy treats and human food? Or if we reintroduce those food, he will regress to being picky again?

  • Dog toys. I need suggestions please

I have a golden retriever and I feel terrible that he has one or two rubber Kong ball shaped toys, and like 6 extremely hard nylon type bone toys.

I feel bad because I feel like he doesn't have a lot of different sensations to feel. I've tried tug of war type toys made out of strong fabric/thread, but what he will do is pull and pull and pull at the loose threads at the end of the knots, and destroy it.

Every animal type of plushie with a squeaker I seem to buy is destroyed after about 10 minutes because once he's done going haywire with it squeaking it, he'll start tearing it apart and ripping it.

Has anyone found a plushie or some sort that actually lasts and is strong?

  • Senior dog shreds pee pads

    Help.

Our dog has historically been low maintenance. We didn't even think he could bark when we first got him; he's been very lazy and just wanted attention and snuggles.

About a year ago, he was peeing a lot and need to go out every 1-2 hours after surgery for bladder stones. This gradually tapered off months later… Only to start up again with many accidents in the house in the same area.

Turns out he's diabetic! While figuring that out, we put pee pads where he had been peeing. He initially avoided using these, and then he started using them. More recently, he loves to shred them. First only when he had first soiled them (he raided the trash can for it), and now he shreds them dry. He has developed an affinity for shredding my 3 year old 's pee soaked pull ups, too.

I'm aware that we may have created this problem by using pee pads… and that he is probably seeking attention as it happens most often when he is left alone for extended periods of time. He has free roam of part of our house – our bedroom, living room, and bathroom. But with two littles, this is driving me nuts!

Can we safely remove the pee pads even though he's still peeing on them? Is he shredding them because they have an attractant? Most recently, he peed just two hours later when he can for sure go all night without needing to go out. The vet said we could try medicine for a UTI, but he let her handle his bladder without any complaints. I guess we can just try it, but I'm afraid he will again start saturating my carpet.

Thanks in advance for any ideas for solutions!
