  • How to entertain husky while I’m at work

I have a 3 year old husky and recently my bf switched to the same shift as me. Previously there was pretty much always someone home. However, now my husky is home alone for 8 hours during the day. He is free roam and does fine outside of his cage. Occasionally gets into the trash when alone but nothing crazy. Despite being a husky he has always been a very good boy. Anywho, my question is what are some things that I can do or give him to keep him entertained while we are working. I know to play with him walk him and what not before I leave and after I get home but that’s not enough to keep him tired during the time I’m gone I feel. He has a lick mat that I put peanut butter on but that only keeps him occupied for maybe 15 minutes. So what are some things that could keep him occupied all day or enough to keep him stimulated atleast.

  • how do i help my dog with baths?

my dog has always struggled with baths and showers, i just tried to give him one but i offered him treats and let him wait to get in when he was ready (bopping the edge of the tub while i wait) and when he finally did that after about 10 minutes he got in and i let him go to the back without the water till he was ready for it (the water is always lukewarm for him) he started breathing really hard and acting like he was about to puke so i turned the water off and let him out. hes completely fine now but i dont know what to do or how to bathe him if hes going to get like this, any help would be appreciated!!

  • Puppy has Giardia & skin irritation – I’m exhausted

It’s just me and my puppy and the first few weeks of getting him were exhausting but we fell into a nice routine.

Then we went for his rabies vaccine and I also told them that he’s been an itchy pup since I’ve basically got him. They gave me an oatmeal shampoo to use and told me I need to bathe him 2x a week until the bottle is done. Already I’m annoyed because he hates baths and this is just an added thing I need to do.

Then his poop results came back and he has Giardia (he had no symptoms) and I feel like I’m going crazy between cleaning/disinfecting the house, bathing him, wiping his ass, and pouring hot water where he shits to kill the Giardia. This is just frustrating as hell.

I also go to the office twice a week and was sending him to a great home daycare (she has an adult dog). Does this mean I can’t bring him until he is clear?? Because realistically what am I supposed to do while I’m gone? My office is over an hour away, so I’m gone 10 hours.

Any words of encouragement or advice is welcome. I’m tired.

  • I have no clue what I’m doing!

2 months ago I found this adorable little puppy and after a vet check and trying to find her family, she stayed with me. I was going to only foster bc I was unsure about keeping her bc my lifestyle was a little whack and i do not WFH so it seemed like a bad idea to have a puppy. I was literally looking to adopt a cat 4 days before I found her, and it just seemed like fate. We are 2 months in and she is the best friend I have ever had and I genuinely believe she saved my life in a lot of ways.

She is 4 months old, suspected chiweenie mix. I did not start off crate training her, but realized for her safety it was necessary. Our schdule is like this most days:

7am: wake up, we go outside first thing

715am-815: breakfast, free roam while I get ready for work

8:15-8:45: long walk! sometimes it's shorter, but i am for about 30 mins. her attention span is short and sometimes she does not feel like walking.

8:50-1pm: she is in her crate while i go to work

1pm: i come home, take her on a short walk, play with her

1:30-5:15/5:30: crate until I am home

530: we go out as soon as i get home

she is free roaming the rest of the night, i feed her dinner around 6/630 and then we go on another long walk.

10pm-12am: bedtime, she sleeps in the bed with me every night

if i have plans in the evening, she is crated while i'm gone, but i feel so guilty 🙁 I try to take her to my friend's house to play with him and his dog on days I know I will be going out in the evening so she can release her puppy energy, but it seems like it's non stop!

we are not allowed to go to dog parks yet and she can't go to official daycare either. What are some other things I can be doing for her? She is so tiny, I try to take her almost everywhre with me, like if I have an errand to run in the evening, i bring her along instead of crating her. but i also dont't want her to have bad separation anxiety. anyone have experience with this breed of dog?

  • Playing tug during teething is… interesting.

The amount of teeth this puppy is losing is ridiculous. And he bleeds! At lunch today, he’d no sooner picked up his toy and brought it to me, asking for tug… I barely touched the toy and he was dropping it, smacking his lips in the universal eugh! way. I looked all around for it and finally spotted a little canine on the floor. This is about the 6th or 7th or 8th tooth in a week’s time. I did not realize how “all at once” teething is.

His breath smells like nasty butthole, too. Gross. When I can’t smell pure blood on his breath, I smell icky butt adjacent smells. He gets blood all over his toys. He got blood on my clothes.

I’m gonna be sooooo glad when he’s done and has his big boy teeth in.

  • Does anyone want 60% off of Butternut Box?

We have tried a few brands of human grade dog food for our Cavapoo who is 4 months old. He didn't like Pure at all but absolutely loves Butternut Box and can't get enough of it. Its not the cheapest food but he really does seem to love the taste.

I have a reference code for 60% if anyone wants to try it https://butternutbox.com/Melaine5?share_source=copylink

  • Boots For Our Dog

Our dog (9) has issues when we walk in the winter. If we walk for any length of time he starts carrying one paw in the air and then I end up carrying him (he’s a small dog). I would like to get him some booties to cover his paws.

    Any advice on

    a.) what kind to get?

b.) how to get him accustomed to them?

c.) any other approach that might help?

I think once he realizes that they’ll help to keep his paws warm he won’t have a problem wearing them but, of course, the issue will be getting him to wear them in the first place.

  • Need advice tips(or book recs) on training a rescued dog that’s chasing/killing ducks

Hey everyone, I could really use some help or book recommendations about handling and training dogs. About two months ago, I rescued two mixed-breed dogs (around one year old) that had been abandoned together. We brought them both into our home on a farm. It took them a little while to adjust, but now they get along really well with our other two dogs. The taller one, Natan, has a ton of energy. He loves to play and often engages in harmless play-biting with the others—never any real aggression. Our main issue is with our farm animals. We also raise chickens and ducks, and at first, Natan would “play” by chasing the ducks. They got so scared they stopped coming to eat. We corrected him, and after a while, he seemed to stop. He also used to bark at the cat but eventually calmed down with that too. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago, he killed one of the ducks. We were really upset and started keeping him in a closed area at night (it’s spacious, but he can’t roam freely). Things seemed fine for a bit, but a few days ago, another duck was killed—this time during the day. I can’t help thinking he might have made a connection between us eating ducks or chickens (we sometimes feed the dogs the cooked bones afterward) and the animals he sees alive around the farm. The other dogs have never done anything like this, so I’m wondering if we made a mistake somewhere—maybe in how we feed or handle the animals around him. Both rescued dogs are in good health, they were checked, so it doesn’t seem like a medical issue behind the behavior. I really don’t want to give up on him, but we’re also considering finding him a home without farm animals if nothing works. Still, I’d like to try to help him learn first. So—does anyone have good books, guides, or training resources for situations like this? We can’t afford a professional trainer right now, but I’d really appreciate any practical advice or reading recommendations. Thanks in advance for any help.
