  • How to handle hyper dog?

I’m struggling big time. We have a 6 month old unknown breed boy. He is a nightmare no matter what I do! I redirect which just makes him even more excited and bitey, we try ignoring which again makes him even more excited and tries biting. I can’t even walk to another room without him attacking me (not angry attacking), if I ignore it and hold in my pain so I don’t make noise he still keeps going! I can’t even sit on the couch! We will sit on the couch and he will have his favorite toys and bones but no, he wants to try and jump ontop of me and bite my arms then tries humping my arm. I’ll push him off and ignore when he does that but every time he gets more aggressive with it and I’m just not sure what to do anymore! He will even chase my cats and try to bite them. Any help is appreciated! He gets plenty of play and outdoor time he just never calms down

  • Best food for a 13 week old German Shepherd puppy?

Hello everyone! I’ve had my German Shepherd for about a month now, and I was wondering if anyone has advice on how to appropriately enrich her diet. At first, I was feeding her just kibble to help her get acclimated and avoid upsetting her stomach when she first came home.

Now, I feed her kibble (Royal Canin Size Health Nutrition Large Puppy Dry Dog Food) along with additions like plain Greek yogurt, broccoli, pumpkin, chicken with broth, blueberries, and carrots. I don’t always give her the same extras, I rotate them. She also has a variety of lick mats and slow feeders to help her take her time and not scarf everything down.

I was also gifted a bag of Freshpet chicken chunks, which I haven’t given her yet, and I was wondering if anyone has experience with those as well.

I’ve had family dogs before, but this is my first personal dog that I’m fully responsible for, and I really want to do right by her. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

  • What did you do with your dog’s things after they passed?

I will keep his blanket, favorite chew toy, leash, collar. But I feel guilty throwing out things like his little backpack, food bowls, paw booties, etc.

What did you do with items like this? Are there places that readily accept donations?

  • Crate size for Corgi (Gunner)

    Hi!

I just need some help finding the best size for my Pembroke.

He is about 34in long, 19in tall, 11in wide, and 38lbs.

According to the recommendations by the company, a medium would suffice for the safety reasons.

But with this, how much room would the dog have inside?

The kennel will be used for a flight from Seattle to Japan, so it has to able to meet the requirements of the airline size wise.

Should I just grab an intermediate?

  • Missing pets app

My dog has been lost for over a week now. Everyone who spotted our dog always posted it on Facebook, but I don't get a notification about every dog posted, so I always see it way too late, and then the dog is no longer wherever he was spotted. Facebook's search function is also trash. When I search for dog, I see posts from all over the world, posts from 1 hour ago and 10 years ago all mixed up. There's no good option to filter it to this location or sort by most recent. Only option is to search each group manually, but there are many many groups from the area where I live.

This made me think that we need a better option to find our lost pets. Im thinking of developing an app for lost pets. I searched the play store, there's already several, but none have many lost pet listing of my area, even though I know there are many as Facebook has way more. So the only way an app like this would work is if everyone would install it and use it.

Im thinking of the option where the owner can add some pictures/videos, a description of the pet, and of course its name and age etc, and choose a location on a map where the dog was last seen. And a phone number. And since when missing.

Then when other people see a dog, they can go into the app, add a picture if they have one, or a description, and a map again where they can choose current location or a different location. All these fields would be optional so that people can do it really fast without it taking much of their time.

Then an algorithm which can estimate how far the dog could have walked based on how long the dog has been missing, and within that distance, constantly search all listings of spotted dogs, and match the description and picture with lost dogs to find matches, very loosely, because not all people will add a very detailed description or add a very blurry picture, and any spotted dogs what could be a match automatically get send to the owner right away with a notification. The owner will be able to see the pictures and description to see if it could match and then go there right away.

I would also add a chat function so that the owner could message the person to ask for a better of the dog.

And then I would also add some sort of overview of all lost dogs in the area as posts which other people can view so they can keep an eye out for them, and a different overview for owners to scroll through all posts of dogs spotted, in case the algorithm missed something. This would be sorted on most recent first.

Now "dog" is just an example, i would make it work for any pet.

The only issue is, the only way this could ever work is if everyone used this. If not everyone uses it, it cant find and match all missing pets.

I was also thinking that people could upload other people's posts of different platforms such as Facebook, so that even if the owner doenst use the app, someone else can upload it for them, and then there should be an option to disable chat function and only add phone number.

What are your thoughts? Would you use this app? And would you share it with everyone else? Obviously the app would need to start with from scratch, meaning you could be the first to ever download it and there wouldn't be any listings yet. So its essential that you would share it with everyone you know to get the app to work properly.

I would need to make 2 versions of the app, a android version and iPhone version, so that everyone can use it, but rhis will take an insane amount of time to make and keep updating it. I don't want it to be subscription based as everyone hates paying, instead I was thinking donations. If people found their lost pet, they can delete their listing and make an optional donation. Would you make a donation?

What other functions do you think would be essential that I havent thought of yet?

  • Help with potty

I have a small dog (morkie, around 6) and she has been going potty outside for a long time, since the snow melted outside she’s been refusing to go in the grass and ended up having an accident inside. It doesn’t make sense cause she went outside before there was snow, please help on how to get her to go in the grass, go potty and to not immediately bolt when I put her in the grass.

  • LED dog collar (specific want list)

I know there are a bunch of threads already about LED dog collars, but I haven't found one yet that I would consider really good. Here's what I'm looking for… have any of you found one that fits the bill:

    1. Must be fairly bright.
    2. Attaches securely. I've already tried the ones that are a clear plastic tube with friction fits at both ends. They pull apart too easily (dog goes into bushes, comes out without collar).
    3. USB-rechargeable.
    4. The collar material doesn't absorb water and get stinky.
    5. Completely waterproof. I've already tried (and really liked, at first) a few that are a rubbery tube with a string of individual LEDs inside, and you trim it to size, and it has a snap-in clip at one end. These were perfect, until I found that they start to malfunction after a few walks in the rain and puddles. Yes I had the USB port cover completely closed during the walks.
    6. Light must go at least 80-90% of the way around the collar. I've already tried a few of the buckle type, but the buckle and the battery compartment don't light up, so there's a dead spot a few inches long, and when the collar is rotated in a certain way, the lights aren't very noticeable. I once cable-tied two of these together in opposite orientations to eliminate the dead spots, which worked well, but they eventually died because they weren't waterproof.
    7. I don't want the pendant style that hangs from the neck because those aren't visible from behind.
    8. I don't want a light-up harness because they get wet and stinky.

  • My dog has started to fear or dislike me

I've had a female Jack Russel for about 10 years. I raised her from birth, and she was always incredibly close to me. She's always been a little haughty and doesn't love snuggling or too much petting, but she's always been happy and pleasant, even adoring, since she was little. My partner moved in with me when she was about 5, and she warmed to him immediately, and became his little shadow. All was alright, until about two years ago. Her behaviour has been getting progressively worse with me.

We have two other dogs, and I treat her the same I as I do them (the difference is that they ask for more physical attention); in fact, they get scolded far more often as they're quite naughty.

The behavioural changes were small at first. When I called her or asked her to follow a command, she would often look to my partner or not want to listen to me, and when I went to pet her (just a small pat on the head, which she previously enjoyed), she would get anxious and move away. For example, I would be sitting on the couch and would say hello to her (no pets), and she would simply get up and move to the other side or even leave the room. It was quite heart-breaking for me, but I assumed she had just bonded with my partner more. I had two other dogs that loved being around me, so I tried not to worry and to be patient with her.

Over time her behaviour has worsened. I will get into bed at night and she will leave to sleep downstairs unless my partner is home. She'll leave the couch if I sit down. She ignore commands. This evening, it is freezing cold outside and my partner is away. I got into bed, trying to be quiet and not acknowledge her so she didn't get spooked. Her reaction was to sprint downstairs and outside. I called her, but eventually had to go fetch her as it's cold enough she could get hurt. I put her in a bed on the floor, and she was shaking for a while and finally calmed down enough to sleep. My other dogs seemed not too fussed during all this.

I try to watch my tone and behaviour, so my frustration doesn't show, but it's getting harder when nothing seems to be working. I've tired ignoring her, rewarding good behaviour, and even getting my partner to help. Nothing works.

She also gets horrible separation anxiety. Despite her feelings towards me, she's fine if I'm home but howls and barks continously when left alone. Also getting worse despite training.

Has anyone had anything similar or can maybe see something I'm missing? I'm at my wits end and starting to resent this little girl I've raised from birth. I used to joke, but am seriously worried now, that it may even be something like dementia.
