Dog suddenly skittish and clingy

Context for the past week: – a thunderstorm one night (dog barked in crate then I slept in the spare bed with him) – a few fireworks (dog hates them – we did our usual loud rock music, loud movie noise, treats scattered on the floor to distract him – nothing unusual with this situation) – left dog outside all day Thursday 8.15am – 4.30pm then 5pm – 7.30pm (dog was clingy in between these two periods when I came home to feed him) – one day, not sure which, maybe Thursday? Maybe Wednesday. He came in from outside and the wind slammed shut the internal door to the room REALLY hard, and he was really scared, tried to run outside but I had shut the door and so he hid behind me.

Behaviour now: – stuck to me and my husband like GLUE. Literally on our feet almost all the time. Since Friday (now Sunday). – seems to be on alert and looking at things which aren’t there, as if he’s seeing something. And checking doors (I think) with a quick glance.

He’s always been a bit anxious but this is next level with the being scared and needy. Behaviour otherwise is similar to normal. Doesn’t beg as much for food but is eating normal. Excited on walks and off leash at the park. Poops and weeing are fine.

My question is – do all these things logically add up to this change in behaviour? At what point is it wise to have a vet check for pain/illness? He has a ruptured cruciate but it doesn’t really bother him and is managed. He had a urine analysis last week – fine. And in a week I can get free bloods done with my vet membership renewal.

Oh and he’s 9.5yrs old. And we have two dogs.

Thanks for reading 🙂
