Nighttime sleep if not crate training

I brought home my 8wk old Aussiedoodle puppy last week. I was hoping to crate train her but she cries so much and it just breaks my heart. I spent last night sleeping on the couch with her near my feet or beside me. Took her out for two toilet breaks when she woke and we both slept pretty well. I understand the benefits of crate training but would love to hear how other people manage night time sleep when not crate training.
