Can I get a dog if I work a 9-5?

I’m a single 23M, I live alone in a 1400 sq.ft. apartment. I have the space and money to get a dog, however, Google says very strict things about timing of walks and food.

I work a 9-5, five days in person, which means the dog will be alone at home. Would this be a bad thing? Should I avoid getting a dog till I have a partner or kids or something?

I’ve never owned a dog before, so any and all advice is welcome! 🙂
