Wool rug and 3 dogs

I have three medium/long hair dogs that are each about 50–80 pounds. They do not have accidents and we wash them about every 6–8 weeks. That being said, I still feel the need to shampoo our synthetic rug in the living room about once a month to keep down dog odor. I was thinking about switching to a wool rug, and wanted to know if anyone has experience with general dog body odor and wool rugs. The type I’m looking at is hand knotted and made in Iran- second hand and is 40ish years old in good condition. The wool rug would be very expensive to professionally clean ($500) so I don’t know if it’s just worth it to buy a cheap new rug and shampoo it myself. I have looked into ruggable, but washable rugs really would not work in this situation as we were looking at a 9 x 12 size and I’ve read generally less than ideal reviews. I’m not worried about durability- genuinely just how it does with dog body odor.
