We have had 3 dogs in our family. The first (cavalier King Charles mix with bichon) was my dog before I met my husband. Obviously, we had a bond before he came into the picture when she was 5 months. When we got our second dog (Westie), our first was 12. I spent time and effort on both. So did my husband and at that point we had 3 (ages 4, 7, 9) little girls that loved having a new puppy- lots of play and loves around. Our oldest dog passed this summer. We just got a new puppy who is now 9 m old (Yorkie) and he has chosen me as his person. From day 1, he was attached at the hip to me. Of course I give him lots of love. But I was trying to foster a bigger attachment to others in the family because our Westie can get jealous. Don’t get me wrong- I love being their preferred human. But what is it that makes dogs choose you?
