I just got a 3 month old Shih Tzu Yorkie about 2 weeks ago. She's a beauty!
I don't know where placing her crate is best. I'm a stay at home mom of 3 homeschooling boys so our house is noisy and fun all day long.
I'm currently trying to crate train which insists of like 1-2 hour intervals during the day a couple times a day. I'm trying to learn her naps and put her in the crate when she starts to find places to lay on the floor.
She will cry for the first 5 minutes and then stop for 30min to an hour before she begins to cry again.
I've tried putting her crate in the living room where she can see us. I tried putting her crate in my room with the fan on and the door closed to eliminate some of the noise and view of me and the boys. I tried covering it half way with a blanket.
She seems more frustrated when she can see us. So I put it in the room and she seems frustrated because she knows she's by herself- which I wouldn't want her to develop an anxiety.
I'm trying to teach her to learn to live with the noise and action. I'm crate training so she can learn to love the crate incase I need to leave for a few hours. I can't leave her out she just pee's and poops. She's peeing and pooping at night around the house on nights where I can't listen to her cry in her crate for 15 minutes straight and wake everyone up.
What kind advice do you have for busy, noisy homes like mine with a new pup? Where do I need to be consistent? What should I try? Anyone have experience with this?
