Hi! I picked up the love of my life yesterday. He’s freshly 3 months old and is a mix of beagle/basset hound/blue heeler/king cavalier. He’s been very wary and anxious since I picked him up, not wanting to walk much on his own and wants to be inside my skin (I’m so freaking in love with him). I live in an apartment with indoor halls and an elevator. Every single time I take him outside he is a little braver each time and takes more steps on his own and has started exploring. But. He decides when he’s done. He did his most exploring tonight and I was so ready to get his exercise in but then suddenly that bum was on the floor and he was immovable so I was hoping that made him tired enough but when we got back he went straight to little barks for attention (he had already pottied and eaten) and I tried to play with toys but ultimately he only wants me to just stay playing with him with my hands somehow. I bought a few simple Kong puzzle treat toys for some enrichment but I’m pretty sure it’s a little too soon for that anyway. I plan to get a lick mat as well (although of course I don’t want to use that all the time to over feed him). Other than that I’m really not able to do too much high energy movement on my legs like running around w him for an extended period bc of medical reasons, but he also hasn’t even really shown any signs of zoomies/wanting to run. He also seems REALLY smart like he already followed my sit command as soon as he was home (his foster didn’t teach him that) and has responded SO well to training treats/positive reinforcement.
So. Anybody have good recs for mental stimulation & enrichment for my smarty sassy pants furry soul mate?
(Doing my best to curb the barking as much as possible without overindulging him so he thinks barking = he’ll definitely get what he wants. He honestly seems actually really great about the barking so far it’s not constant for no reason it’s always got a point to it)
